What is Granblue Fantasy Relink?

Great you asked. Granblue Fantasy Relink is the third game in the Granblue Fantasy franchise. The first entry was a turn-based RPG and was released in 2014 in Japan on mobile platforms and web browsers. The game introduced a colorful cast of characters alongside male protagonist Gran and female protagonist Djeeta.

Later we saw the release of Granblue Fantasy Versus, a fighting game that will soon see a rerelease with improved netcode with Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising. Here the cast of heroes villains and in-between got to duke it out against each other under the banner of a 2D fighting game by Arc System Works. The game will be released on November 20, 2023.

This brings us to Relink which is the franchise's first big console outing. Relink is a big action RPG set in the world of Granblue Fantasy where up to 4 players can go together on quests and experience the story. Think of it as Monster Hunter meets Devil May Cry meets the Tales of Series.

The player will set out on a journey to a cluster of floating islands as “The Captain”, recruit allies and aid a girl called Lyria who has the ability to control primal beasts. After an incident ties the two together it is up to the Captain and Lyria to find out the secrets of the Promised Land.

Granblue Fantasy Relink Gameplay

Granblue Fantasy Relink promises to be a massive action RPG that lets players team up with up to 4 of their friends on epic adventures. From the looks of it it seems like a mix of Capcom's Monster Hunter series with a hefty amount of character action game sprinkled into it.

Similar to Monster Hunter, you'll set out on Quests in big open areas after selecting one from a central hub. In that hub, you'll be able to upgrade your equipment, buy additional items to help you on your adventures, and level/gear up your cast of characters.

Instead of playing one character, Granblue Fantasy Relink features a vast cast of characters with unique abilities, skills, and combat styles that you can mix and match to your desire. and if you're not out adventuring with your friends in the coop, you can team up with strangers or bring AI companions with you.

Combat looks very involved with gigantic bosses that seem to adapt a more MMORPG style of boss fight compared to your usual action game duels. Lots of the combat is centered around finding openings, dodging, and avoiding attacks while combining various abilities and skills to deal massive damage.
