Gen.G Esports vs Cloud9 is the last chance for the last North-American team, but can Fudge and co. defeat the LCK champions?
Only 6 teams remain in the 2023 Mid-Season Invitational, the first international League of Legends event of the year! MAD Lions and the Golden Guardians were the first two teams to say goodbye to the tournament, after the former lost to G2 Esports 3-0, while the latter managed to score 1 point against Cloud9 – but only one. This means that the first seed of the LCS remained in the game – but now they have a bigger fish to fry.

Gen.G Esports vs Cloud9 Preview
Gen.G Esports
The squad of Gen.G started out the tournament in a dominant fashion, beating G2 Esports 3-1 in the first round of the Bracket Stage – just as everyone expected, as Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon and his team is the first seed of the strongest championship in the world.
However, they couldn’t defeat the team that they beat in the LCK Spring Finals, their rivals, T1. Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok and co. have won the first two rounds of the clash between the two LCK teams, and almost swept Gen.G 3-0 – but Choi “Zeus” Woo-je and Mun “Oner” Hyeon-jun had other ideas. Nevertheless, T1 won the series 3-2, knocking their opponents down to the botlane – even though the 17-year-old Kim “Peyz” Su-hwan have found his form by the end of the series.
Cloud9
The 1st seed of North America faced one of the teams that was deemed the weakest among the LCK and LPL participants – and still couldn’t make a dent. Ibrahim “Fudge” Allami and the rest of C9 were able to hold themselves above the water for the early game, but as soon as the teamfights rolled around, they were no match – which is a tendency in matches between Western and Eastern teams.
Nevertheless, Cloud9 got back on track after destroying the other North American team, Golden Guardians, who had a great run during the Play-In stage, but just like in the LCS Spring Finals, couldn’t best C9. While they managed to get a hard-earned victory thanks to Trevor “Stixxay” Hayes in Game 3, the first match only lasted 22 minutes, and in Games 2 and 4, Cloud9 were in control.
Gen.G Esports vs Cloud9 Predictions
Sadly, that means little against a team of such calibre as Gen.G. Individually Chovy and his teammates are better than Jang “EMENES” Min-soo and Cloud9. Of course, that doesn’t mean that they are invincible, but even if the 1st seed of the LCS wins the early game, we have only seen one example of a Western team having a better mid- and lategame than an Eastern team – so this match may be the end of the road for Cloud9.
