In Dragon's Dogma 2, it's possible to simply fail a quest, thankfully the Vocation Frustration quest has a fail-safe built in.
Dragon's Dogma 2 is a big RPG, a detailed RPG at that. As time passes, and quests are completed, it's very easy to either miss a quest or simply move on without finishing it. As with many titles, Dragon's Dogma 2 can also have you fail a quest without much notice. That's where a quest like the Vocation Frustration comes in with a handy way to save you.
Vocation Frustration
So, some context for this story. As you'll know if you read this, to complete Vocation Frustration you need to head to the Goblin Mine and loot a Greatstaff and a Greatsword. Simple stuff really. However, I managed to get the items before I was made aware of where and what I needed… so, I managed to sell the sword to a vendor.
Later, I did the steps, handed in the Staff to unlock the Sorcerror but was met with a “speak to the Smithy to find out about the lost items”. This sent me on a loop of heading to the Smithy, him sending me to the Goblin Cave and the Gobline Cave having no item.
So, how did I fix it you might ask? Well, I basically gave up, figured I'd get it some other way or just, well, not play as a Fighter. Thankfully, the game had my back.
Vocation Frustration, a frustration With my Vocation?
So, without spoiling exactly what triggers it to happen. At a certain point in the game, while questing in the main area, you'll be sent to a new place. You'll be given a simple “Are you sure you want to do this” type prompt. If you decide that you're done, and want to progress the Vocation Frustration quest will complete, and award you the missing Vocations.
A caveat here, we only tested this with the missing Fighter Vocation, however, we have to assume that, given these are “default” Vocations, the game would indeed auto-grant you them anyway.
So, yes, don't worry as you go out on your quest in the world of Dragon's Dogma 2. At least, when it comes to Vocation Frustration.
