After 3 years after its initial release, CD Project REDs Cyberpunk 2077 is finally receiving its first DLC with Phantom Liberty. The game has been on a long road to redemption since its less than favorable received release but this DLC promises to make Night City bigger, better, and one step closer to the mega RPG it promised to be all those years ago.

So here is a quick rundown on everything you could want to know about Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty DLC.

What is Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty?

Phantom Liberty is the DLC Sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. We don't know exactly how it will tie into the main game, but it seems to be settled near the end of the original story.

Night City mercenary V is looking for a way to get rid of the brain implant slowly killing them, this leads them to Dogtown. Here V and their literal ghost in a machine Johnny Silverhand (played by Keanu Reeves) get involved in a spy-thriller in a district run by rogue mercenaries and embark on a mission to save the New United States President.

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty Release Date

Cyberpunk 2077's first DLC is set to release on September 26, 2023 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The DLC is not standalone, so you must have or buy the base game Cyberpunk 2077. Do keep in mind that the last-gen consoles won't support the DLC or the upcoming update.

The new Cyberpunk 2077 DLC promises to rework much of the game's existing gameplay and overhauls many of its systems. The DLC will feature new weapons, implants, gear, and a completely new part of Night City to explore.

With that come new missions, gigs, and side activities that will make Night City even bigger and more immersive. It is left to be seen how expansive this DLC will end up being but we're expecting something on a similar scale to the Witcher 3 DLCs.

But it doesn't stop there. With the release of Phantom Liberty, Cyberpunk 2077 will also roll out its much anticipated 2.0 update which promises new content and overhauls for the base game as well.

For Context: Much of Cyberpunk 2077 and Night City have changed since the initial release in 2020. The original had been unplayable for some at launch and much of what the developers had promised never even made it into the game.

Since then, CD Project RED had put in great efforts to bring Cyberpunk 2077 to a playable state, add new missions and side content as well as rework some of the game's various troubles systems.

We checked out Cyberpunk 2077 last year and concluded that while a lot had changed and was significantly better, Night City was still a place with a lot of unrealized potential. This 2.0 update promises to finally tap further into it.

This includes new Story Quests and Gigs outside of the new DLC. A completely revamped Police System or rather the implementation of one to begin with. Police will now hunt you down, set up barricades and even send their elite after you should you prove to be too much to handle for Night City's finest.

Vehicle Combat and mounted weapons will be added. Going from being able to shoot out of the window of your car to hacking other vehicles. We've also seen something like the ability to jump off your motorcycle to engage in combat with style.

Other sweeping changes include dynamic events and missions, a complete overhaul of the Cyberware and Perks as well as a completely new Relict Skill Tree and Abilities. Aside from that you can expect the usual including an increased level cap, new weapons, vehicles, and more.

Phantom Liberty might be the update that will lure many back to Night City's neon lights. The recent anime adaptation Cyberpunk: Edgerunners created an itch that makes us want to go back one more time.
