Call of Duty: Mobile Moves Forward, Ditches Zombie Mode at End of March

Our beloved zombies are leaving Call of Duty: Mobile.

If you're a fan of Call of Duty: Mobile's zombies mode, gamer boys and girls, do we have some terrible news for you. Because at the end of March, the 25th to be exact, the game's next update as well of the developer of the iOS and Android title will be completely removing any and all signs of the beloved Zombies feature.

Official Statement

Developer of the mobile version, Timi Studios, had this to say in the latest press release:

“We had always mentioned it was limited but with no explicit end-date. We wanted to see the reception, see the feedback, and see how we can potentially shape the mode for the future. However, the mode just didn't reach the level of quality that we desire. One of the most frequently asked questions to these updates is ‘what about ZOMBIES Mode?' Today, after extensive evaluation we are sharing that ZOMBIES Mode is being removed on March 25th.”

“We had always mentioned it was limited but with no explicit end-date. We wanted to see the reception, see the feedback, and see how we can potentially shape the mode for the future. However, the mode just didn’t reach the level of quality that we desire. The second map, Nacht Der Untoten, is also not releasing in the global version. We may bring the mode back, with Nacht Der Untoten, once we can make sure it is high enough quality, but for now, we’ll focus on development for Multiplayer, Battle Royale, and Ranked Mode.”

Additionally from what we know, the studio won't release Nacht Der Untoten This was set to be the second zombies mode map that it has been working on. However, both may eventually make their way back into the game.

Potential Return

Timi also went on to say that “we may bring the mode back, with Nacht Der Untoten, once we can make sure it is high enough quality.” But hey, at the rate that Activision/Blizzard has been dishing out these false promises of Call of Duty release validity, the soon to be newest incarnation of Zombies just might be released fifty years from now.

Call of Duty mobile Zombies mode

The timing of the Zombies removal on mobile is very interesting. So far, it directly coincides with Jason Blundell's recent goodbye from Call of Duty franchise co-developer Treyarch. Blundell was one of the founding members from the original Call of Duty Zombies team. He was a fan-favorite developer as well. The former co-head is closely associated with the mode, having served as a producer on Black Ops 3 and Black Ops 4. He supervised the development of the mode while working on those two games.

Fans React

One fan and user on Reddit chimed in during Activision’s latest community update. They talked about their qualms with the latest COD Mobile community changes:

“What's the need of removing the zombies mode instead of keep it and add the new map while improving it using community feedback and Treyarch Zombies Mechanics as base. If zombies is not having enough player base is because since the launch it barely got any improvements despite all the feedback you received (Including from me). I know people that literally only have the game downloaded for this mode.”

Call of Duty: Zombies is a first-person shooter video game developed by Ideaworks Game Studio. It is published by Activision for iOS. This is a spin-off of the Call of Duty series and based on the Zombie mode in Call of Duty: World at War. The game was released worldwide on November 16, 2009.
