Anivia is one of Veigar's strongest picks, and it will be interesting to see if she is still one of the best Veigar counters in League of Legends after the recent release of patch 14.8. Anivia is one of the best champions at punishing immobile champions, which Veigar is. He is one of the slower champions in League of Legends and has a hard time dodging crowd control. While Anivia doesn’t have great movement speed herself, her passive means she can fight more aggressively even if she is rather slow. You can use both your ultimate and your wall to slow down Veigar while also throwing out your Q to stun him. Anivia scales greatly into the late game and can match Veigar while having excellent wave clear.

Ekko

Ekko is an amazing counter to Veigar, as he can easily counter his abilities. Ekkos E can dash through Veigar's cage, his only defensive ability against Ekko. This means whenever Azir looks to dash in, he can be stunned by the Veigar cage and burst down and killed. Veigars abilities allow him to farm safely at a distance without Azir being able to poke him down. If Azir gets too close, Veigar has the advantage as he can burst him down. Although Azir scales incredibly well in the late game, Veigar also has an insane amount of burst damage later on, thanks to his passive, which scales in AP every time he Q’s a minion or hits an enemy champion with his ability. Eventually, Veigar can just go for supportive items as he will naturally have close to 1,000 AP in every game.
