Learn everything there is to know about the upcoming Assassin's Creed Mirage Release Date including and more.

Assassin's Creed Mirage is the newest entry in the long-running Assassin's Creed Franchise. Set before in Baghdad in the 9th century, the game follows Basim Ibn Ishaq who fans might know from his appearance in Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

Here is a quick overview of everything you need to know about Assassin's Creed Mirage.

What is Assassin's Creed Mirage?

It's the thirteenth major installment in the Assassin's Creed franchise. After the ending of Assassin's Creed Valhalla seemed to softly reboot the series as a whole, it is the first entry in the new overarching storyline which will probably also include the upcoming mobile games Assassin's Creed Jade and Assassin's Creed Codname Red.

Mirage wants to be a return to form after Assassin's Creed Origins made a dramatic shift to large Openworld Action RPGs. Older fans of the series wanted the more focused gameplay and stories of previous entries which Mirage now wants to ape after.

The game is set in Bagdad and shares a lot of resemblance with the first Assassin's Creed game which was released back in 2007. And while remakes are all the age these days, Assassin's Creed Mirage seems more like a modern take on the 2007 classic while still being part of the same continuity.

Assassin's Creed Mirage Story

Mirage starts in the year 861 and centers around Basim Ibn Ishaq who fans of the franchise might remember as the Hidden One (the Assassins before the Assassins were a thing) Mentor from Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

The story centers around Basim's rise from a lowly pocket thief in the streets of Baghdad to one of the most renowned Assassins to ever live. Some footage and story beats we've seen so far also imply that the game will feature the construction of Alamut Castle, which was mentioned in previous games.

Assassin's Creed Mirage Gameplay

As for gameplay, Assassin's Creed Mirage promises to be a return to form for the franchise. After the Open-World installments Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla had largely ditched the social stealth and free running in favor of large vistas, Mirage quite literally returns to the series' roots.

The ‘Black Box'-System that Assassin's Creed Unity coined will also make a return. Instead of following a linear set of missions, players have sandboxes to play with. We don't know yet how deep that system will go, but we hope it will include some of the information gathered from the first game.

Everything else we've seen so far looks like a logical step forward after Assassin's Creed Unity and Syndicate had already tried to make the classic formula work on the wide streets of Paris and London respectively.

Baghdad's claustrophobic streets and alleys might force players into more interesting strategies again. Unless the chain parry from the older titles returns, which allowed players to slaughter entire armies after one well-timed parry.

According to Ubisoft, Mirage will be the biggest Assassin's Creed title they've ever made. This is a tall claim considering that they also promised that it would only be 30-40 hours long. In comparison, Assassin's Creed Valhalla took 60 hours to finish on the critical path and 140+ hours if you went for completion.
