In this article, we will be discussing 5 games like Rise of The Ronin
Developed by Team Ninja, Rise of The Ronin is an upcoming game where you’ll get to play as a vagabond Samurai, presumably from the Ronin clan, set in the Japanese Bakumatsu period. It’s set to release on March 22nd this year so be sure to mark your calendar and prepare yourself for bloody fights, plenty of exploration and a well-written plot line.
Team Ninja is rapidly increasing in popularity, having released other games that are similar in style and extremely fun to play, like Ninja Gaiden and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. This is why gamers are waiting in anticipation for Rise of The Ronin to release, because Team Ninja has definitely set the standards high for themselves.
That being said, Rise of The Ronin is currently releasing as a PS5 exclusive, and we’re sure that PC gamers will want to play this as soon as possible. Although that won’t be possible for a while, today we’ll be talking about 5 games like Rise of The Ronin to fill the void of no PC release, even for a little bit.

5. Nioh 1&2

What better way to prep yourself for a Team Ninja game than another Team Ninja game? Nioh was arguably the game that put the devs into the fame they have now. Dubbed a souls-like, Nioh is also set in a historic era of Japan (Sengoku period) and the game is famous for its bone-crushing difficulty, which is a common theme in souls-like games.
Just like Rise of The Ronin, in Nioh, you play as a character set in real-world events, with combat and weapons similar to the upcoming 2024 game. The same goes for both Nioh 1 and its predecessor, and it’s pretty much a one-to-one when it comes to souls-likes in terms of gameplay.
Rise of The Ronin will most likely not be as difficult, and fans are constantly debating if it even is a soul-like. However, from what we’ve seen in the gameplay and trailers, it will be much more casual and catered towards gamers who prefer to lay back and enjoy the story while taking a chill approach to fights.
4. Sekiro – Shadows Die Twice

Crowned the Game of The Year of 2019, Sekiro – Shadows Die Twice is one of the most definitive experiences when it comes to samurai-esque action adventure games. Developed by legendary team FromSoftware, the game follows the souls formula with its own twist and combat system of parries and posture break.
Rise of The Ronin is definitely taking inspiration from Sekiro, with it also being set in feudal Japan, like we’ve said before. It looks like you’ll also be able to take the shinobi route in ROTR, thanks to abilities like parkour and grappling hooks. Fans of Sekiro will definitely be feeling close to home when they play Rise of The Ronin, and we can’t wait to see the similarities when the game comes out.
3. Assassin’s Creed Series

It is very likely that the first games that came to mind when people saw the Rise of The Ronin trailer are the Assassin’s Creed games. With both games sharing similarities such as a parkour system and a similar historic setting, it’s hard not to connect the dots between the two games.
Assassin’s Creed is a long-standing legendary franchise, and we hope to see ROTR stand up to the standards of groundbreaking games that the Assassin’s Creed series offers. As inspiring as the series was, it’s no surprise if ROTR also takes inspiration for things such as the stealth, combat and traversal system.
2. Elden Ring
Although ROTR is presumably not a souls-like, the inspiration is definitely striking, as we’ve mentioned. Regardless, a game doesn’t have to necessarily follow the formula to feel like a souls game. Elden Ring took everything that made FromSoftware renowned and turned them up to a 11. A fascinating dark fantasy open world, spectacular visuals and a refined combat system, it will inspire games for generations. And Rise of The Ronin is no exception to that case.
If you’re looking for a similar open-world experience but don’t have access to a PS5 to play ROTR, then definitely consider playing Elden Ring, cause it will definitely satiate the hunger until ROTR gets a release date for PC. If it ever does, that is.
1. Ghost of Tsushima
Probably the one game that’s most similar to ROTR is Ghost of Tsushima, a fantastic samurai action adventure game developed by Sucker Punch and released in 2019. Following an extremely similar setting and approach to combat, playing Ghost of Tsushima will definitely keep you busy until ROTR is released for PC.
That being said, Ghost of Tsushima just got a release date for PC itself, as it was a PlayStation exclusive, and will be one until May 16. If you want to read more about Ghost of Tsushima’s PC port, then check out this article.
And that concludes our article for 5 games like Rise of The Ronin. Although the games mentioned can’t be compared directly, Team Ninja definitely took inspiration from them in a very good way, and we can’t wait to get our hands on Rise of The Ronin on March 22nd when it comes out.
With that being said, if you don’t have access to a PS5 or simply want to play games that are similar to ROTR, then we hope this article helped you out in that matter!
