Many fans have been asking the question for months, and it seems that Activision's Art Lead may have given us the answer.
Fans on the Resetera forum have been discussing the integration between Warzone and Black Ops Cold War over the past few days, and Activision’s Art Lead left a comment to finally answer one of the community's most asked questions.
This news means that Warzone will remain on the engine used within Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. This includes movement mechanics, visuals and vehicles. While many fans agree that Warzone and Modern Warfare’s engine has its flaws such as the infamous slide cancel, it is also the best so far in terms of visuals and sound.
What does this mean for Warzone?
One of the biggest features to be added in Modern Warfare was mounting. Mounting allows you to attack your weapon onto a flat surface such as a wall and increase its accuracy to that of a laser. This feature was not present in the Black Ops Cold War beta, and we don't expect it to be in the full game either. If Warzone is to keep the same engine, we assume Mounting will remain in the game.
While we know that players will be able to use loadouts, operators and weapon blueprints from both Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War in Warzone, this only raises more questions. Will Black Ops Cold War’s perks be introduced to Warzone, and will Wild Cards be usable? We definitely don't have a clear answer as of now, however, we expect to hear more soon.
One danger of this change is that it may split the community. Some players may never touch Black Ops Cold War because of this change and will stick to Warzone. The same can be said for fans of Black Ops Cold War’s engine, the drastic change in movement mechanics may stop them from going back and playing Warzone alongside this year's game.
With only 12 days until the game's release, we expect to hear more next week. But there is no doubt that the community will have a lot of questions for the developers when they reveal more.
