Toronto Ultra continue their form from 2021 as they win the first event of the 2022 season
Last night, Toronto Ultra were victorious in the first event of the 2022 Vanguard Call of Duty League season. The roster of Ben “Bance” Bance, Cameron “Cammy” McKilligan, Tobi “CleanX” Juul-Jonsson and Jamie “Insight” Craven were dominant throughout the weekend;' taking home the $30K USD prize.
Toronto Ultra – Kickoff Classic Champions
Toronto began their weekend with a match against a strong Florida Mutineers roster. Coming off the back of a win on the first day, the Mutineers were looking to continue their run at the Kickoff Classic. Ultra dominated the respawns, while suffering a 6-2 defeat in the SnD, seeing them move on to the Semi-Final.
In the Semi-Final, Toronto Ultra took on the LA Thieves. While they weren’t expected to be in the semi final, the Thieves looked strong, especially in SnD. However, Search and Destroy happened to be the key for Ultra. They won both maps two and five; while performing an unbelievable clutch in map four to win the Hardpoint 250-248.
The Grand Final saw Ultra take on Seattle Surge. After an exceptional weekend, the rookies of Daunte “Sib” Gray and Amer “Pred” Zulbeari were looking to win their first professional event. However, it wasn't meant to be. Surge came out strong in the first map; winning 250-209 after being at a slight deficit at the beginning of the match, while the story was different in maps two, three and four as Ultra and especially Insight dominated the match.
Toronto Ultra will now look ahead to the first week of the CDL regular season where they take on Seattle Surge to kick off their year.
