Huke rejoins Shotzzy and iLLeY, this time on OpTic Texas.
XEO have been reunited as Cuyler ‘Huke” Garland rejoins Anthony ‘Shotzzy’ Cuevas-Castro and Indervir ‘iLLeY’ Dhaliwal on OpTic Texas. The OpTic roster has had a number of issues over the last two years, from iLLeY’s thumb injury to numerous complaints around Brandon ‘Dashy’ Otell’s commitment to the team.
The 2023 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 season will be the last for Seth ‘Scump’ Abner, and as such OpTic Texas decided to run it back for one final year with the same roster, even after dropping iLLeY and Dashy and attempting to create a new team. However, this clearly has not worked, and there is still a rift within the OpTic camp.
As the Los Angeles Guerrillas recently announced a complete overhaul of their roster ahead of Major 2, bringing in three of their academy players, this left Huke up for grabs. While OpTic Texas attempted to bring in Amer ‘Pred’ Zulbeari from Seattle Surge as their main target, he was ultimately off the table, and Huke was the next best choice.
Huke has had up and down seasons over the past few years, however, the last time he was on the same roster as iLLeY and Shotzzy was in the 2020 Modern Warfare season on Dallas Empire. This was the inaugural Call of Duty League season, and Dallas Empire were the first World Champions. Along with this, Huke has been a big name of the Envy brand for a while, and being reunited with Hastro may see him reach the heights of seasons past.
While many fans may see Huke as a youngster still, iLLeY commended Huke’s leadership in an interview we did with him following the 2020 World Championship.
“Huke knew Shotzzy and I were not comfortable at all… Huke had a long talk with us and after that, everything went up hill” iLLeY said. So while Huke’s gameplay has suffered recently, he may return to top form in a familiar environment, back with his XEO squad.
