After my PrizePicks DFS review, I found the platform is a great Pick ’em-style fantasy site, especially for beginner players. You can’t do much better if you prefer pared-down player prop projection contests. My favorite feature is the Flex Play format, which lets you still cash in if one or two picks let you down.

Their iOS app is another winner in my book, and almost 500K players agree. It has a clean interface that makes finding and building entries easy, taking under 2 minutes. It’s well-stocked with community features, including Taco Tuesday and Feed. I love that their welcome bonus is straightforward, giving new players $50 in Lineups for a low $5 minimum entry. 

A few things the platform could iron out include the narrow banking options. The contest types are far fewer. DraftKings DFS or Underdog would make more sense if you are a veteran player after salary cap contests, GPP tournaments, or Best Ball. If Pick’ems are more your speed, PrizePicks is one of the best DFS apps at the moment.

What Is PrizePicks DFS? How the Pick’em Format Works

Based out of Atlanta, Georgia, PrizePicks is a Pick’ems-style daily fantasy sports platform founded in 2015 by Adam Wexler and Jay Deuskar. They built the DFS site as a faster, more beginner-friendly alternative to both sportsbooks and the research-heavy grinds of big-name fantasy apps like DraftKings. 

Today, the platform runs exclusively on a peer-to-peer (P2P) Arena format for all real-money contests. PrizePicks has also introduced prediction markets with the launch of Team Picks and Culture Picks products. 

With their Pick ’ems-style format, Player Picks, you select 2 to 6 players. All you have to do is predict whether each player will go More or Less than their projected stat total. PrizePicks covers over 20 leagues, offering one of the largest sports selections among DFS sites.

Getting Started: How to Create a PrizePicks Account

Registration on PrizePicks took me about five minutes on mobile. You must first download the PrizePicks iOS or Android app and follow these steps:

3. Confirm your home address and finish registration

My First Impressions of the PrizePicks App Interface: Feed, Lineup Builder, and Restrictions

From the get-go, the interface was clean and uncluttered. I love that sport and stat navigation run along the top of the screen. Building my first lineup took under two minutes because the search function and navigation made it easy to find players and select their stats.

There are plenty of social features, including the community-powered Feed. It gives the vibes of copy-betting. You can view and copy entries from top-grossing players, expert analysts, and friends. 

I was disappointed that the platform does not allow a lineup with a combo of players from the same team. You cannot pick one player for two different stat categories (think rebounds and points) on one ticket.

PrizePicks Contest Types: Power Play, Flex Play, and Arena

PrizePicks is all about player stat Pick’em contests. It’s a straightforward Under/Over contest format. You won’t find fancy GPP tournaments, salary cap lobbies, or head-to-head matches, making it an excellent site for fantasy sports beginners.

The minimum entry fee is $5, which can dip to $1 during Happy Hour promotions. The price tag for entries could range from $400 for two picks to $100 for four. You can submit your entry as a Power Play or Flex Play.

Power Play: All-or-Nothing Multipliers Up to 25x

Power Play is the all-or-nothing format. Every pick in your lineup has to hit for you to collect a payout, and the multipliers include:

• 2 picks: 3x
• 3 picks: 5x
• 4 picks: 10x
• 5 picks: 15x
• 6 picks: 25x

The payouts are certainly lower than you’d get on a sportsbook like BetRivers for the same-leg parlay. The true odds for a 4-leg parlay at most sportsbooks hover around 12x to 15x, which is higher than the 4-pick Power Play payout of 10x.

Flex Play: Partial Payouts When One or Two Picks Lose

Flex Play is similar to parlay insurance. You can still get a payout if one or two picks let you down.

For example, a 5-leg pick can still pay at 2x if one pick misses or 0.4x if two fail. No other major pick’em platform currently replicates this format.

Is Prizepicks Gambling?

PrizePicks App Review: iOS 4.7/5, Android 4.2/5, Live Scoring

PrizePicks is packaged from the ground up as a mobile-first DFS platform, and that’s a good thing. The interface is clean, and the color palette is easy on the eyes. The collapsible layout and navigation make finding player stats, switching between sports, and checking live entries easy.

The stat and sport filter tabs sitting at the top make for a great user experience. You can jump between NBA picks and NFL lineups without going through many menus. The Explore tab can be a big timesaver because it shows active promos, lifts trending picks, and breaks down recent stats.

In my test, the live scoring tracker was responsive and accurate, unlike those on other fantasy sites, which can take up to 3 minutes to update. It’s bittersweet that they ditch their in-app tracker for official league stats when settling picks.

PrizePicks complaints point to issues with location verification. Even so, PrizePicks ratings are stellar on the app stores, as shown below:

With fewer than ten methods on the roster, PrizePicks could use more banking options, especially e-wallets like Skrill and Paysafe. The minimum deposit and withdrawal limits are both the standard $10. As expected, deposits are instant and require a 1x playthrough before withdrawals.
