Firstly, the move comes just a little under a year after the partnership was first announced. TMobile was the first major sponsor of the Outlaws. “Last year T-Mobile helped us build a foundation toward solidifying Outlaws as a top OWL brand,” said Ryan Musselman, President of Infinite Esports & Entertainment. Infinite Entertainment is the parent company of the Houston Outlaws and OpTic Gaming and is owned by Texas Esports.
Unfortunately, all may not be well in OpTic-land, however. Sportspromedia.com recently reported that majority stakeholder Texas Esports was looking to sell its majority stake in Infinite Esports & Entertainment. Because of this, many thought that OpTic's LoL and OWL franchises were in trouble.
Regardless, the second season of the Overwatch League kicks off this week, making the announcement well-timed. The OWL starts this Thursday, February 14 with a showdown between the Philadelphia Fusion and London Spitfire. Houston’s first game is at 6:00 PM CMT February 15th against the newly-franchised Toronto Defiant.
