A new year means a whole new set of FIFA tournaments. It all starts with the first Gfinity Licensed Qualifier Event (LQE) taking place in the Gfinity Arena on Saturday, January 19th and Sunday, January 20th. You can catch the action on the Gfinity Twitch channel starting at 8:45 AM ET on Saturday. The LQE will be a great prelude to next week's FUT Champions Cup taking place in Bucharest, featuring 64 players from both PS4 and Xbox One.
This LQE will be missing some big names most importantly Mossad “MsDossary” Aldossary. Even though he will most likely be present next week to defend his Champions Cup title, him not being in the Qualifier Event does mean that Donovan “F2 Tekkz” Hunt from the Xbox One side, will be the event favorite to win it all.
On the other hand, the PlayStation 4 side has two favorites in Gonzalo Nicolas “Nicolas99FC” Villalba and Mohammed “MoAuba” Harkous. Nicolas was a huge breakout star in FIFA 18 and has struggled a bit to find his footing in offline tournaments this year; he did make the finals against MsDossary in Champions Cup December. MoAuba has been a constant contender that has fallen short but hopes to keep players on their feet and finally get the chance to take his first tournament win.
One of the exciting things that come with this first tournament is the chance to see what players consider the new meta teams. With the introduction of the Team of The Year, we will finally see who are the priority picks for all the pro players. With this, players can focus on deciding who to invest into for their own squads when playing FUT at home.
Aside from this event giving us a great look at the stars of FIFA and how they can start 2019 on the right foot. Fans usually get a chance to gain rewards if you go on the official stream and link your EA Sports account with your twitch. Especially with the Team of the Year being out of packs, this might be another opportunity to get one if you are lucky.
