Gen.G Raises $46 million, Will Smith and Keisuke Honda Among Investors

Esports organization Gen.G revealed on Wednesday that they had raised $46 million in a round of funding to support future projects, with the fundraising led by big names in sports and entertainment. These names include actor Will Smith, known for films such as Men In Black and I Am Legend, Japanese soccer player Keisuke Honda and other big-name investors such as Stanford University.
Gen.G stated that the money raised by the fundraiser will be used to help the organization open its Los Angeles headquarters that is set to open in July, as well as funding a youth esports academy program created by Gen.G and assisting with the global expansion of the company.
Gen.G has several teams across multiple different platforms, most notably with a team in the Overwatch League known as the Seoul Dynasty. Gen.G also have teams competing in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, League of Legends, Fortnite and Apex Legends. Fans of Overwatch will recognize some of the names in Gen.G’s Apex team, with former Overwatch professionals Silkthread and Grimreality now playing for the organization in the battle royale game.
