Welcome to our CoD Pro League Recap for Division B, Day 5! Week 2 of Division B is finally here, and with it come a couple of new “gentleman’s agreements” between the pros playing in the Pro League. First off, Seraph and her Annihilator Specialist Weapon have been “banned” in favor of using Recon and his Vision Pulse. Second, the teams agreed not to use any streaks that are piloted by the AI (Drone Squad, for example).
In regard to the actual matches, we got to see a couple of good ones, including one match that didn’t come out like many expected. For the first match, 100 Thieves gained an unexpected victory over Team Envy. The second match of the day was a bit more predictable, as Splyce notched up another win over Excelerate Gaming.
Match 1: Team Envy vs. 100 Thieves
Although this match could’ve gone either way, how 100 Thieves won surprised viewers. At one point during Game 1 (Hardpoint), Team Envy had an 80-point lead that seemed insurmountable. That said, 100 Thieves brought it back from the brink of defeat to claim a Game 1 victory (250-236). Game 2 (Search & Destroy) saw 100 Thieves flexing their muscle easily smoking Team Envy 6-2.
Game 3 was Control, and up until today, 100 Thieves had never lost a Control match. Due to this, many people expected 100 Thieves to close the series out and take home a hot 3-0 match win, but somehow Team Envy managed to Dominate the Thieves on their best game type. They handily defeated 100 Thieves in a 3-0 Control shutout. Fortunately for them, 100 Thieves’ first Control loss didn’t derail them too much. The team bounced back in Game 4 Hardpoint, closing out the series against Envy with a Game 4 win (250-206), and took the series 3-1.
Match 2: Excelerate Gaming vs. Splyce
Splyce reigned supreme in the respawn game modes during the second match on Day 5 of Division B against Excelerate. The only time they seemed to slip was in Search & Destroy, and even then they didn’t lose their momentum. Game 1 (Hardpoint) was an uphill battle for Excelerate, and they were unable to get up that hill fast enough to beat Splyce, who won Game 1 (250-149). In Game 2 (Search & Destroy), Excelerate proved to be the better Search & Destroy team, but just barely. They won by the slim margin of two rounds, ending Game 2 with a 6-4 score.
Splyce easily returned to dominance during Game 3 (Control). They handed Excelerate a Control game mode and looked dominant doing it, shutting out Excelerate with a 3-0 score. Splyce had a huge lead for much of Game 4 (Hardpoint). While Excelerate attempted a valiant comeback, Splyce shut it down hard and won Game 4 (250-194).
