CoD: Black Ops Cold War Competitive Ruleset V1.0 Revealed

The Call of Duty League has released the first iteration of this year's competitive ruleset.

With the Call of Duty League likely to return in late January, we’re around two months away from the 2021 season. Today we get to take our first look at the competitive ruleset, with the CDL releasing V1.0 of the 2021 competitive settings. These rules are likely to change throughout the year, and we may also see some maps and or modes change too.

Maps & Modes

The following maps and modes will be played in the 2021 Call of Duty League season:

  • Hardpoint
    • Cartel
    • Checkmate
    • Crossroads
    • Garrison
    • Moscow
  • Search & Destroy:
    • Checkmate
    • Crossroads
    • Garrison
    • Miami
    • Moscow
  • Control:
    • Checkmate
    • Garrison
    • Moscow

Restricted Items

Each year we see some items restricted from competitive play. In V1.0 of the competitive setting for 2021, both the M16 and AUG have not been banned, however, we will likely see them GA’d in the future. The following weapons, attachment, equipment and perks have been banned for 2021:

  • Primary Weapons:
    • All LMGs
  • Secondary Weapons:
    • All Shotguns
    • All Launchers
    • All Special Weapons
  • Attachments
    • Body
      • SWAT 5MW Laser Sight
      • Ember Sighting Point
    • Stock
      • Dual Wield
  • Tactical:
    • Stimshot
    • Decoy
  • Lethal:
    • C4
    • Semtex
    • Tomahawk
  • Field Upgrade:
    • Proximity Mine
    • Field Mic
    • Gas Mine
  • Perks:
    • Perk 1:
      • Paranoia
      • Forward Intel
    • Perk 2:
      • Tracker

The ban of Semtex has raised some eyebrows, with many competitive players using a Semtex during the 2020 season and before. They use a Semtex because you are able to know where it will be landing, whereas a frag can roll to any position. This reduces the chance of a teamkill and is crucial to competitive play.

The Call of Duty League is likely to tweak and change these rules up until the start of the competitive season, and possibly throughout. With only eight maps available in Black Ops Cold War from launch, we may see some new DLC maps added to the competitive rotation throughout the year.
