CDL Major 3 Qualifiers – Week 3 Day 3 Recap

Here’s a recap of the final day of the CDL Major 3 Qualifiers, as the action comes to an exciting end.

The Call of Duty League continued its journey towards Major 3 with the final week of qualifiers coming to an end with the final day of qualifiers last night. Some of the best teams in the league went head-to-head, and we saw three incredible matches to finish off the Major 3 Qualifiers.

Seattle Surge 3-0 London Royal Ravens

The London Royal Ravens were confirmed to be in the losers bracket heading into this match. As they’ve been struggling recently, they decided to let their auto veto of Bocage Hardpoint into this matchup. Seattle Surge loved that and started this series excellently, with Pred beginning the map 11/1 and earning full streaks before they eventually closed out map one 250-109. Pred was almost unkillable all map, dropping 36 kills and a 1.67 K/D.

Just as it looked as though the Royal Ravens would tie the series, the Seattle Surge pulled off an unbelievable comeback and took the map 6-5. Surge iced up in the round 11 with Accuracy, dropping 11 kills in the map and putting Seattle 2-0 up in the series. Seattle Surge then continued to impress on Berlin Control as they closed out the map 3-0 with Sib back to Major 1 form, dropping 28 kills and a 2.00 K/D. Surge swept the series 3-0, and look dangerous heading into Major 3.

Florida Mutineers 3-2 Boston Breach

The Florida Mutineers are finally back in the team facility after testing negative for Covid-19 today, and they seemed more than ready to take down Boston in this matchup. Map one saw an absurd comeback from the Florida Mutineers as they were down 200-244, and somehow managed to rotate, win every single gunfight and take the map 250-248 to start the series with a 1-0 lead.

Boston Breach tied the series 1-1 with a 6-3 Bocage Search and Destroy win. This map victory was mainly led by Nero, who dropped 14 kills and dominated the map. When Nero is on his game, no team in the Call of Duty League is safe, so Boston Breach fans will love seeing him on top. The Control then swung back in favor of the Florida Mutineers, which is no surprise due to Boston’s Control woes throughout the season.

However, the Boston Breach bounced back and forced a game five through a 250-179 Tuscan Hardpoint win. Capsidal and Nero were unstoppable on this map, putting up 31 and 29 kills respectively as they broke hills with ease, and looked dominant heading into map five. Game five featured a lot of controversies, with Florida bringing it back from 5-2 down to 5-5, and then two of the Boston players' PC’s crashed. TJHaly had a Glide Bomb in his back pocket, but the CDL ruled to not give him the streak, and the Mutineers went on to win the round, the map, and the series.

OpTic Texas 3-0 LA Thieves

OpTic Texas were dominated on Berlin Hardpoint yesterday by the New York Subliners, and Shotzzy put up a woeful 0.46 K/D. Today, Shotzzy was a completely different player as he went on a 13 kill streak and put up 42 kills in the map, completely dominating the LA Thieves and not giving them a chance to get in the Hardpoint. That was the most dominant Berlin Hardpoint of the year, and the longest killstreak of the Vanguard season.

OpTic Texas also suffered a defeat on Berlin Search and Destroy yesterday. They completely turned it around and won map two 6-4 to take a 2-0 lead in the series, before closing it out with a 3-0 Berlin Control win for the 3-0 sweep. Shotzzy put up a 1.67 overall K/D in the series as OpTic went 4-1 in the Major 3 Qualifiers, and caused a tiebreaker match for the Thieves.

Florida Mutineers 3-0 LA Thieves

There was only meant to be three matches tonight, but following the results of Florida and LA Thieves matches, they ended up with the exact same results in three different tiebreakers, leading to a tiebreaker match having to be played. The winner of this match has to play OpTic Texas in round one at the Major, while the loser takes on Minnesota ROKKR. Therefore, the series was full of players trolling, using the M1928 in Hardpoint, and multiple Snipers in the SnD.

In the end, the Florida Mutineers came out on top 3-0, and go on to face OpTic Texas in round one at Major 3.
