Celebrity guest stars have long been a staple of major Call of Duty events — and Launch Weekend of the CDL on January 24 is no exception.

The CDL just announced that Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves NBA team will make an appearance during Launch Weekend in Minneapolis, Minnesota. More specifically, he’s going to be part of a 2v2 Gunfight tournament series. The CDL is calling them “Hype Battles.”

What are Hype Battles? According to the official CDL website:

“During Hype Battles, special guests will face off in popular modes such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s 2v2 ‘Gunfight’, and fans in attendance will get to cheer on some of the most recognizable names in entertainment.”

Karl-Anthony Towns is only the first celebrity guest star announcement for Hype Battle in Minneapolis. The other three guest stars have yet to be announced. As for timing, this particular Hype Battle will take place on the last day of Launch Weekend. Sunday January 26 at 4 PM EST.
