Call of Duty League To Be Played On PC For The 2021 Season

In another surprise announcement, the Call of Duty League have revealed yet another massive change ahead of the 2021 season.
Since its first iteration, Call of Duty has been a console game. The majority of players have played on their Console with only a minority of players on the PC servers. However, the rise of Warzone has seen more and more PC players get involved, playing the game at higher res, higher frame rate and most importantly for some players, a FOV slider.
Heading into and following the 2021 season, the Call of Duty League will now be played on PC. This brings many benefits such as higher frame rates for players and therefore a better viewing experience. There are more customization options when it comes to the CODCaster overlay and a higher possibility of extra features such as a pause feature. While many fans have been worried that this may mean that players can use mouse and keyboard, this is not the case. Players will be required to use a “League-approved controller”.
In the announcement, the CDL said how the “Call of Duty League competition will maintain exclusive use of controllers for the upcoming season. This change provides players with expanded choice of controller, allowing them to select the League-approved controller style that works best for their game.”
Changes to Challengers
The amateur Call of Duty League Challengers division saw little attention last year with no broadcast and minimal coverage from the CDL. However, this year that changes. The CDL Challengers will now have dedicated broadcasts as they attempt to “introduce new programs that will continue to spotlight top Challengers talent throughout the year.” Along with this, the move to PC for the 2021 season also means that Challengers will be crossplay. This will allow players to compete on Playstation, Xbox and PC. However, PC players are still required to use a controller.
This is one of the many changes we've seen ahead of the 2021 Call of Duty League season. It is one that has been welcomed by fans and is a big step forward for Call of Duty esports.
