Winners Bracket
The Winners Bracket for the Call of Duty League Playoffs includes the teams which finished in the top 8 of the league. This includes Atlanta FaZe, Dallas Empire, Florida Mutineers, Chicago Huntsmen, New York Subliners, London Royal Ravens, Toronto Ultra and Minnesota Rokkr.
London Royal Ravens vs Toronto Ultra
The first Winners Bracket match at the 2020 Call of Duty League Playoffs sees the London Royal Ravens take on the Toronto Ultra. This will be an extremely contested matchup with both teams playing extremely well this season. The London Royal Ravens have had a decent run of games this year however some roster changes have stopped them from reaching their full potential. While they narrowly lost out on their second Final of the year at their own Home Series they put up a good performance and have some good momentum going into Playoffs.
The Toronto Ultra however has the most momentum of any team in the league coming straight off their first Home Series win at their own event. They took down the Atlanta FaZe in the Final and will be looking to stay in the Winners Bracket at playoffs for as long as possible. However, Toronto has struggled against teams around them in the league as times this season and lose the head to head against London with a 0-1 record.
New York Subliners vs Minnesota Rokkr
The second Winners Bracket match will see the New York Subliners battle against the Minnesota Rokkr to keep their place in the Winners Bracket. The New York Subliners has been one of the best teams in the league during the second half of the season. Mack has been an excellent addition to the squad and this should be an easy match for the Subliners given Minnesota Rokkr’s poor run of form.
Minnesota Rokkr has struggled since the move to Online matches. They have only won 5 matches since the turn to online and zero matches in the last three Home Series’. However, they have brought in Exceed to replace GodRx during Playoffs, could this be a genius move from the Rokkr? We’ll find out soon.
Losers Bracket
The Losers Bracket includes the bottom 4 teams in the Call of Duty League, this includes OpTic Gaming Los Angeles, Paris Legion, Los Angeles Guerrillas and Seattle Surge.
OpTic Gaming Los Angeles vs Los Angeles Guerrillas
OpTic Gaming Los Angeles has definitely improved in the latter half of the season. The additions of Zach “Drazah” Jordan and Darien “Hollow” Chverchko have improved this squad drastically. They have also beaten teams such as the Chicago Huntsmen in recent weeks showing that they can perform to the level of the top teams.
The Los Angeles Guerrillas have also shown plenty of promise this season taking teams such as Atlanta FaZe to multiple game fives. However, they haven't been consistent this season at all and the experience of OGLA players such as Austin “SlasheR” Liddicoat may be too much for the Guerrillas to handle.
Paris Legion vs Seattle Surge
Paris Legion has been a team that struggled in the middle part of the season yet seem to have had a revival in their last event of the season. They came second at CDL London achieving their highest placing of the year. However, this sees them return to their early season form where they won 4 out of their first 6 matches. If Paris can keep in this form, they will be a tough opponent for Seattle Surge.
Seattle Surge however has experience on their side in this matchup. Starting in the losers bracket means that if they lose they’re out for good, and this is something that the experienced Seattle Surge players will not accept. In the head to head Paris lead 1-0, however, if these Seattle players perform how we all know they can, this will be one of the best matchups all year.
Championship Winner
This has been a very close year of Call of Duty with everyone being able to beat everyone and we have seen some incredible upsets. However, the favorite to win has to be Atlanta FaZe, they have been one of if not the best team all season and while they had a period of struggling and going to game fives they always won them. They clutch up when needed and have performed extremely well all year long.
