Call of Duty League 2020 – Dallas Empire Best Plays

The Championship winners were undoubtedly the best team in 2020, here’s some of their best plays from the season.

As 2020 draws to a close, we look back on the Call of Duty League season and some of Dallas Empire’s best plays. As the inaugural Call of Duty League Championship winners, there is no doubt that they were the best team. They made some exceptional plays, and while the young guns Shotzzy, iLLeY and Huke made a major difference, the veterans Clayster and Crimsix managed to keep up. Here’s our top 5 favourite Dallas Empire plays from the 2020 Call of Duty League Season.

Following their Championship victory, we had the honour of sitting down with Huke and iLLeY to discuss their season. You can see the full interview here.

#5 Crimsix’s 7-Piece

Ian “Crimsix” Porter seemed to struggle with the early online CDL events, however by the end he was frying like usual. In the Toronto Ultra Home Series, the Empire took on the Florida Mutineers in Group Play. This was something of a must win match, as both teams were tied on 3 Home Series wins for the season, and Dallas did not want to let Florida get the momentum going into champs.

On the final hill, Crim went big. He took down 7 players with the M4 and secured the series victory for the Empire. Here’s the clip.

#4 Huke the Nuke’s 37 Kill start to Champs

Cuyler “Huke” Garland wasted no time getting into the Call of Duty League Championship Grand Finals, dropping 37 kills in game one. Huke is an extremely underrated player who really brings together the Dallas Empire squad and is one of the main reasons why Shotzzy and iLLeY performed so well this year. You can hear more on that topic in our interview.

The kill count on Cuyler “Huke” Garland's fateful 37-kill map

This map was a statement from the Empire. Following a 0-6 record in the regular season, Dallas defeated Atlanta FaZe twice in two days on Azhir Cave and this momentum led them onto a 5-1 Championship win.

#3 iLLeY’s Incredible Smoke Play

Indervir “iLLeY” Dhaliwal stunned everyone with his respawn ability in his rookie season. As a Search and Destroy prodigy, not many fans knew what to expect from him. However, he proved his worth, especially with this clip. Dallas Empire needed a big play to get them through this match against the Paris Legion. iLLeY provided, finessing around the smoke to get multiple kills, and win the map.

#2 Shotzzy’s 200IQ Body Block

Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro was the Call of Duty League 2020 regular season MVP. He had one of the best redemption arcs all year, from a 0.80 K/D at his first event, to absolutely frying in the Championship Finals.

Some fans think Shotzzy can just run around and shoot, however, he is also one of the smartest players in the League. Left in a 4v3 scenario, Huke begins defusing the bomb. Shotzzy gets a kill and quickly stands infront of his teammate, blocking the shots and allowing the defuse to come in. This was a pivotal round, putting Empire 5-3 up.

#1 Dallas Empire’s Champs Winning Moment

Finally, we have the championship winning moment for Dallas Empire. This was an exceptional match for the squad, absolutely dominating in a 5-1 victory. This saw Clayster and Crimsix win their third rings, while Shotzzy, Huke and iLLeY all got their first. Dallas Empire played at the highest standard in the 2020 season, and the young guns proved their ability.

With Clayster heading to the New York Subliners for the 2021 Black Ops Cold War season,  Dallas Empire will be hoping they can continue their success. Crimsix will also be hoping to become the first four time World Champion this year.
