Best Garen Counters League of Legends

Do you need help lane against Garen in League of Legends? Don't worry—here are the best champions to help you climb the LoL ladder.

Garen is one of the oldest champions in League of Legends, dating back to 2010, 14 years ago. He has one of the more basic kits you will see in League of Legends, far different from the complexity of most League of Legends champions. That being said, Garen is still as powerful and is an excellent choice in the Top Lane. So, the question is, how do you actually put Garen in the dirt? ESTNN brings you the best three Garen counters in League of Legends.

Best Garen Counters in LoL

Camille

Camille is one of the most robust counters into Garen in League of Legends. She is one of the champions who can match Garen's aggression while isolating him into a 1v1 duel that can work out in her favor. Although Garen can heal through his passive, Camille can also heal through her W, which slows Garen, making it difficult for him to trade effectively. Camilles ultimate can also lock Garen in place, which is where you will be able to kill him easily if you have ignite. Camille’s E is also a great escape tool. When Garen looks to run at you through his Q, you can use your E on the nearest terrain to escape. Garen should not be able to get good damage onto you in this lane if you play the lane correctly. Keep the lane closer to your tower; you have the tools to chase him while he doesn't.

Rek’Sai

League of Legends Patch 14.7

Rek’Sai is one of the strongest Top Laners in the game right now. She can split push like the rest of them and will be able to frustrate Garen in the lane. Similarly to Camille, Rek’Sai has great sustainability thanks to her burrow, which heals her whenever she goes underground. On top of that, once Rek’Sai comes above ground with her W, she can knock Garen into the air and escape quickly with E. This is how you are meant to play the Rek’Sai top strategy in this meta; you maximise your healing with burrow will going for short trades. Don’t go for long trades with Garen; he can silence you, putting you in a vulnerable position.

Quinn

If Garen players thought Rek’Sai was annoying to play against, just wait until they go up against Quinn. Quinn absolutely has the ranged advantage in this match up against Garen. When he goes for an attack, Quinn can lunge back off of him, and also blind him, leaving Garen in a vulnerable position. Quinn should be able to nullify Garen from shoving the wave into her tower. Whenever Garen walks up, Quinn can inflict multiple auto-attacks onto Garen. Quinn should be looking to run ignite in this match up and try to get an early kill. On top of that, Quinn ultimate allows her to move from base to lane very quickly and will be the first to answer any river skirmishes.

Worst Champion To Pick Into Garen In League of Legends

Jax on 14.6 is statistically the worst Top Laner in League of Legends against Garen according to Mobalytics. Although Jax has the ability to block incoming attacks, Garens Q ignores this and can still apply damage while Jax is charging up his E. When you hit him with your Q, he will be unable to jump away because he is silenced. If you are able to catch him in this vulnerable state, you will have the opportunity to kill him. Charge him with Q to force the Counterstrike out of him, and when he is silenced pop Ghost or Ignite and chase him down. Once Jax falls behind in this match up, it is essentially game over for him. You will have permanent kill pressure and he will be forced to sit under his own tower.
