Vikings vs Eagles preview of the NFL week 2 odds and
Both teams are coming off victories in week 1 and this matchup will be an interesting one. We love an NFC showdown, and it seems like both the Vikings and the Eagles are hot at the moment. But who’s hotter?
The Minnesota Vikings handled the Packers in week 1
It was a beatdown in Minnesota last weekend when the Vikings dominated Green Bay by land and air. Kirk Cousins threw for 277 yards, had 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. His favorite target Justin Jefferson received 184 of those yards and caught both TD passes. This is the sort of performance we are used to seeing by Rodgers and Devante Adams in Green Bay, but these times are gone.
Green Bay gave up 395 total yards and their superstar QB threw 1 pick on 195 yards and got sacked 4 times.
The Eagles produced a lot of offense but what about the defense?
The game in Detroit was perhaps supposed to be easier for the Eagles but it took an impressive performance from their quarterback, Jalen Hurts to win this one. The QB had 243 yards passing and he also rushed for 90. What needs to be mentioned, however is that all 38 of the Eagles’ points were scored without a passing touchdown.
Their defense also allowed 181 yards on the ground and 205 more through the air.
Key players in the Vikings vs Eagles matchup
We will highlight one player from each team we think will play a key role in the game. Also, check out the top NFL player props that we gave away in our NFL week 2 predictions.
Minnesota Vikings
Dalvin Cook: As we highlighted above, the Eagles seem to struggle against the run and Dalvin Cook is among the top running backs in the NFL. His NFL week 2 odds to go over 70 rushing yards are -110 and we see value there.
Philadelphia Eagles
Jalen Hurts: We simply have to see an impressive air performance by Hurts. We know he can escape the pocket and that he can have scripted QB runs. It’s time to see those passing touchdowns, however.

Vikings vs Eagles spread betting: Minnesota +2.0 @ -110
This line opened at 3.0 and we aren’t going to lie – some of our guys took it. Even at +2.0 we still like the Vikings as we think the wrong team is favored here. Yes, the Eagles can likely put up some points on the board, but their defense is a suspect. The Detroit Lions scored 35 on the Eagles. QB jared Gof threw for 215 yards and 2 touchdowns. The biggest problem is that the Eagles secondary simply cannot force incompletions.
In their last 6 games of the previous season, the Eagles forced only 36 total incompletions. And this year? Well, now all of a sudden, their run defense is bad allowing 180+ yards on the ground against an average running team like Detroit.
The Vikings have a new offensive scheme and two of the best offensive players in the league – Dalvin Cook and Justin Jefferson. It might be a long day night for the Eagles.
Player Prop bet on the Minnesota vs Philadelphia game: Dalvin Cook over 70.5 rushing yards @ -110
This is a simple handicap here. Cook had 90 rushing yards in the first game of the season against division rival Green Bay. Meanwhile, the Eagles allowed 181 yards on the ground against a team that mainly passes the ball to its running backs instead of handing it off – the Lions.
Cook is also absolutely cemented in the Minnesota lead back role. He had 20 carries in week 1 and his backup Alexander Mattison had only 8. If the Eagles are shaky on defense, expect the Vikings to run them off the field.
