Vikings vs. Dolphins NFL week 6 odds, preview and current betting lines
These two teams arrive into this match in very different places. The Vikings are sitting pretty at the top of the NFC North having won each of their last three games. By contrast the Dolphins have seen their positive start to the season dissipate with back to back defeats across their last two games. With that all noted, this game is far from a forgone conclusion with the Vikings not an unbeatable side on the road and the Dolphins generally a very good team when playing in Miami. The fact the Dolphins are at home will definitely need to be considered.
That’s the ‘off the field’ stuff loosely covered. On the grass this will be an interesting match up. Both sides are strong in the offensive phases of play but defensively there a huge question marks over both teams. With that considered, you could make the argument that Tua Tagovailoa’s absence will be a big one – especially with the Dolphins having to start Skylar Thompson.
This game will be Thompson’s first start for Miami and you feel the Vikings will try to use that inexperience to their advantage by getting in and around him whenever possible. Kirk Cousins, who will start at QBs for the Vikings, will fancy his chances of outperforming his opposite number regardless though and, in all likelihood, the best quarterback performance will underpin the side that go on to win this match up.
Players to watch in the Vikings vs. Dolphins game
Minnesota Vikings
Justin Jefferson: We might have cited the quarterbacks as a key position in this game but so much of the good stuff the Vikings do goes through Jefferson that we can’t not include him as the Vikings’ one to watch. He leads the NFL in receiving yards and sits second for receptions.
Miami Dolphins
Skylar Thompson: Skylar Thompson’s performance here is likely to have a big impact on the final result. He’s going to be seen at the Dolphins’ weak link too to add pressure to him but he’s shown himself to be a capable quarterback when opportunities have came his way in the past.
Our NFL bet of the week for the Vikings vs. Dolphins match
Right, with the preview over let’s move on to our predictions, after all, that’s the main reason you’re here.
Vikings vs. Dolphins Spread betting: Vikings -3 @ -118
We kick off our tips for this game with a spread bet and our inclination is for the Vikings to come out on top with a -3 handicap applied. The Vikings have been in sensational form of late winning each of their last three and four of their opening five games; of those four wins, three have come to by a margin of more than three points. The Dolphins are in contrasted form with two losses on the spin now and they’ve both come in as heavy blows too as they lost 27-15 to the Bengals and then 40-17 to the Jets.
The other statistical aspect we can look at is the head to head record. It’s been a while since these two locked horns but the last clash saw the Vikings run out winners by a huge margin; that game ended 41-17 allowing for far more than the measly -3 we’ve suggested here! Lastly, before we move on to our second tip, the absence of Tagovailoa also makes the Vikings with a negative spread much more likely.
Vikings vs. Dolphins odds: Tyreek Hill under 62.5 receiving yards @ -114
Our next prediction for this match is partially driven from stats and part from our tactical insights. We are backing Dolphins man Tyreek Hill to post fewer than 62.5 receiving yards against the Vikings. With Tagovailoa missing, Hill becomes the Dolphins biggest weapon, however, we just don’t seem him turning in a dominant display.
Statistically speaking, two of his last three games have seen go under that all important 62.5 marker, which isn’t a great sign for him doing so here. More importantly though, with Thompson the quarterback for Miami in this match the Vikings will know that should they wrap Hill up that the QB will struggle to hurt them owing to his all round game not being nearly as strong as Tua’s. Obviously, stopping Hill is easier said than done but we think the Vikings will just about do enough to keep his relatively hushed.
