Titans vs. Jaguars Odds, Spread, Preview: NFL Week 18 Predictions

Titans vs. Jaguars Week 18 matchup preview and current betting lines

The Tennessee Titans (7-9) and Jacksonville Jaguars (8-8) will meet Saturday night in Jacksonville with the AFC South on the line. The winner takes the division, the loser goes home until next season.

This could complete a stunning collapse for the Titans, who were 7-3 before losing six games in a row to get to this point. Ryan Tannehill is injured, so Josh Dobbs will get his second start in a row after never starting an NFL game prior to Week 17.

The Jaguars were left for dead at 2-6, but their turnaround combined with Tennessee’s collapse has led to this matchup. If the Jaguars win, they will finish 9-8 and on a five-game winning streak. It would also mean that both of these teams will have had at least five-game losing streak and a five-game winning streak in the same season, a rare event.

In Week 14, things turned between these teams when Derrick Henry lost a fumble before halftime and the Jaguars turned that mistake into a touchdown. The Jaguars went on to win 36-22 after winning the turnover battle 4-0. Trevor Lawrence also passed for 368 yards and three touchdowns in one of the finest games of his career.

Everything is trending towards the Jaguars in this matchup. They have the Super Bowl-winning coach in Doug Pederson. They have the emerging star quarterback in Lawrence. They have home-field advantage in the biggest game for the franchise since the 2017 AFC Championship Game. They are in a great position here, but we know the Titans know how to fight and do the unthinkable as underdogs. But this may be too tall a task.

The NFL Week 18 odds have the Jaguars as a 6-point home favorite with a total of 40 points.

Players to watch in the Titans vs. Jaguars game

Tennessee Titans

Derrick Henry: The Titans rested Henry against Dallas knowing this was the more important game. While not quite as dominant as he is against Houston, Jacksonville has been Henry’s second-best opponent. He has two 200-yard rushing games against them, including one with four touchdowns. Henry has 16 touchdowns in 12 games against the Jaguars. He had 121 yards in Week 14, but he lost two fumbles in that one. He’ll need to be at his best if the Titans’ season is to continue.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Evan Engram: What does he have for an encore after he had the best game of his career in Week 14 against these Titans? Engram had 162 yards and two touchdowns in that game. This is a tight end who has six games this year where he did not surpass 16 yards. But not to be a one-game wonder, Engram had 113 yards against the Jets in Week 16. The Jags may decide he is the best weapon in this matchup again.

Our Best NFL Bets for the Titans vs. Jaguars game

We have two NFL Week 18 predictions for this AFC South title game.

Titans vs. Jaguars Point Spread Pick: Jaguars -6 (-110)

The Titans vs. Jaguars spread opened with the Jaguars as a 5.5-point home favorite and it has moved up half a point to Jaguars -6 going into the weekend.

One of the strangest division races of all time, it sure looks like everything is slanted towards Jacksonville winning. The defense has allowed only a field goal in each of the last two games, and Lawrence already had a season-high 368 passing yards against this defense, which you have to throw against as the Titans will shut down the run.

All we’re really dealing with is uncertainty. How will Lawrence react to the playoff atmosphere in the biggest game of his NFL career? How will Pederson coach things against someone known to gamble like Mike Vrabel? Is Josh Dobbs actually decent? He threw for over 230 yards against the Cowboys without taking a ton of sacks against that pass rush. His receivers did not help him out on a few drops either.

Then there is the Henry factor that should give the Titans more of a running threat in this game, but Henry has to stop fumbling. He did it twice in that Week 14 loss.

The Jaguars have more weapons and a capable passing game. Their defense is arguably just as good as Tennessee right now, if not better. They should win this game by a touchdown, but we’ll just see if they prove it or not with everything on the line this Saturday night. Having a Super Bowl-winning head coach should help make up for the inexperience here.

Total: Under 40 Points (-110)

Do not expect a repeat of 36-22 with these teams in this health state with Ryan Tannehill out. But with a playoff atmosphere, that could mean the playoff mode of the Titans shows up. That means more low-scoring games as a bet of under 40 points would have been 3-1-1 in the five playoff games under Vrabel since 2019.

Remember when the Titans sacked Joe Burrow nine times and still lost 19-16 in the divisional round last year? Yeah, that’s what a big game performance from the Titans tends to look like.

But the Titans are 28th in scoring at 17.6 points per gam this season. They have never scored more than 27 points in any game this year. They have been allowing some bigger point totals down the stretch, including 36 to Jacksonville, but expect slugfest here.

The under should be your NFL bet of the week from this matchup of a wounded offense with an inexperienced quarterback and bad line going up against a hungry, young team that is peaking at the right moment.
