Titans vs Colts: Odds, Spread, Preview: NFL Week 4 Predictions

Titans vs Colts Week 4 matchup preview and current betting lines

The Tennessee Titans have gotten off to a rocky start to the season. Some even questioned whether Ryan Tannehill should hold on to his job as their starting quarterback after a string of mediocre performances, but at least they managed to get their first win of the season.

Mike Vrabel’s team allowed the New York Giants to rally and beat them in the season debut, and they were completely outmatched by the Buffalo Bills in their second game. Then, they barely escaped with a win vs. the 0-3 Las Vegas Raiders after leading for the whole game.

The Indianapolis Colts didn’t look like much of a contender early in the season, either. Despite boasting an elite defense and one of the best running backs in the game, going from Carson Wentz to Matt Ryan didn’t have the expected impact on Frank Reich’s side.

Nonetheless, the Colts finally managed to win their first game of the season, beating Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs after a shocking tie with the Houston Texans and a disappointing loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week Two.

Tennessee Titans vs Indianapolis Colts prediction

Players to watch:

Derrick Henry: We all know what Derrick Henry’s capable of, and he’ll need to do way more to help the Tennessee Titan’s offense stay afloat. Thus far, he’s only logged 192 yards on 54 carries for two scores. That’s good for merely 3.56 yards per carry, which is far below what you’d expect from King Henry.

Matt Ryan: Matt Ryan was supposed to be a massive improvement over Carson Wentz, but that just hasn’t been the case thus far. He’s got a passer rating of 77.2, completing just 75 of 117 attempts for 769 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 4 picks. Long behind are the days of MVP Ryan; he’s just not that guy anymore.

Week 4 Predictions: NFL Bet of the week on Titans vs Colts

Colts -3

The opening Titans vs Colts spread has the home team favored by a field goal, which we believe it’s right on point. Frank Reich’s team is coming off an emotional win over a legit Super Bowl contender in the Kansas City Chiefs, and facing this version of the Tennessee Titans should be a step down in class.

Ryan Tannehill has been flat-out terrible to start the season. He’s attempted just 80 passes and has completed 50 of them for 647 yards with three touchdowns against three interceptions, and Derrick Henry has been far from the tackle-breaking machine he’s used to being.

The Titans have been inefficient offensively to start the season, and they should have plenty of issues marching the field against a physical, stout defensive unit like the Colts. Also, this will be a divisional matchup, so we expect the home side to bring their A-Game.

Even if Matt Ryan hasn’t looked that much better to start the season, he can still throw the ball downfield, and the Titans’ lack of explosiveness and playmakers in the passing game sans A.J. Brown could hurt their chances of keeping up here.

Under 43

The Titans vs Colts odds have this game sitting at just 43 points. That’s also right on cue for this kind of matchup, as neither of these teams favors the offense over the defense. Moreover, this will be a divisional matchup, so both coaches are likely to be overly-conservative and take a postseason approach for this game.

More than that, these two teams focus their offense on the running game, so we expect plenty of long drives and draining out the clock on every single snap. That could also lead to an old-school, defensive-minded kind of game with plenty of punts.

The Titans are averaging under 18 points per game to start the season. Derrick Henry has struggled to find gaps, and they have no legit threat in the passing game, not to mention Tannehill is either unwilling or unable to complete a pass of 20+ yards.

The Colts need to get Jonathan Taylor involved and put the football in his hands more often than not. Matt Ryan has been shaky, to say the least, so the running game needs to take over if they want to win this one. This will be a tough watch for big-play lovers.
