Texans vs. Bears NFL week 3 odds, preview and current betting lines
Before we look at the specifics around the game it’s hard to ignore the fact that this match sees the Texans Head Coach, Lovie Smith, return to not only his old team but the team with whom he was named NFL Coach of the Year. He’s spoken openly about this clash comparing the buzz of excitement to a drug-fuelled high. In reality, the neutrals probably won’t see things that way with neither of these sides particularly highly rated to bother the postseason.
The Bears impressed in the opening week of the season as they beat the 49ers whilst the Texans put in a more than credible shift to end 20-20 with the Colts, however, week two saw the duo both lose. Despite that sounding like there might be some rays of hope for the sides that isn’t necessarily the case with both camps having their fair share of frustration in them.
The Bears have looked alright carrying the ball but their passing game is leaving a lot to be desired right now whilst the Texans just need to get a win. We’ve referenced their strong opening day campaign but, even then, things could have been quite different had they not blown a lead in the final quarter. With all of that considered, it makes this game one that both teams will have earmarked as a potential victory and now it’s about who delivers on the day.
Players to watch in the Texans vs. Bears game
Houston Texans
Brandin Cooks: We know the Texans have struggled for wins and Brandin Cooks could be someone that helps to change that. Cooks put up 82 receiving yards in the Texans’ opening day tie and hit over 50 again last week. He’s a weapon that needs to be utilised.
Chicago Bears
Justin Fields: Justin Fields is struggling a little bit right now with the Bears, generally speaking, not exactly looking great when tossing the ball around. With just 191 yards to his name from two games, Fields needs to take things up a notch here.
Our NFL bet of the week for the Texans vs. Bears match
Right, with the preview over let’s move on to our predictions, after all, that’s the main reason you’re here.
Texans vs. Bears Spread betting: Bears -3.0 @ -100
The first bet we bring your way today is that the Bears will come out on top even with a -3.0 spread against them. Look beyond their loss to Green Bay last week, who, by the way, are capable of taking any side apart on their day, and things have been going okay for the them of late with four wins in their last five games; three of those four wins have come with a margin stronger than 3.0 points. The Texans haven’t been terrible of late but they did get a bit of a lesson last time as the Broncos beat them 16-9. When you then consider that the Bears beat the Texans with a 29 point spread last time they met and the a -3.0 spread looks pretty ‘tame’.
Texans vs. Bears odds: Total points under 39.5 @ -114
Our second tip for this match is that we’ll see fewer than 39.5 points. The Bears have only gone over that 39.5 threshold in one of their last five matches whilst they average 35.6 per game. The Texans meanwhile have gone over the 39.5 mark in two of their last five but with a lowly average of just 31.2 points. Finally, three of the last five head to head clashes have also ended with fewer than 39.5 points on the board.
