Belgium vs. Morocco predictions, preview and betting tips

Belgium takes on Morocco in a Group F battle at Al Thumama Stadium in Doha, Qatar. The contest is set to start at 8 a.m. ET and is being broadcasted by FOX and Telemundo.

Despite being No. 2 in the FIFA rankings behind Brazil, Belgium couldn’t display a strong performance against 41st-ranked Canada. Roberto Martinez and his side prevailed 1-0 over the Canadiens but were dominated throughout the match.

Canada recorded 22 shots compared to Belgium’s nine. The Maple Leafs possessed the ball for 46% of the contest, mainly in Belgium’s final third of the field.

Michy Batshuay broke the deadlock in the 44th minute. Canada pressured in the second half but was unable to respond.

Morocco enters the game after a nil-nil draw with Croatia. The Atlas Lions went toe-to-toe with the Vatreni and recorded more shots (8-5).

Oddsmakers at DraftKings have Belgium as favorites at +100 odds on the moneyline vs. Morocco at +320.

Players to watch in the Belgium vs. Morocco contest

Kevin De Bruyne: The 31-year-old attacking center mid is widely considered to be the best player on the planet in his position. Belgium’s captain has scored 25 times while donning the red and black and has tallied 60 goals in 221 Manchester City appearances.

Hakim Ziyech: It hasn’t been all glitz and glamour for Ziyech since he joined Chelsea in 2020. Before that, he was a rising star with Ajax. The 29-year-old winger scored 38 goals in 112 games for the Dutch side. He has a good track record with Morocco, scoring 18 goals in 44 contests.

ESTNN’s soccer analysts will provide two Belgium vs. Morocco betting tips in the following section.

Belgium vs. Morocco prediction: Morocco +0.5 @ -115 (DraftKings)

De Bruyne was blunt when asked about Belgium, one of the pretournament favorites, chances to lift the Coupe Du Monde.

The Red Devils appeared old and slow during the match. 31-year-old Eden Hazard couldn’t make much happen on the wing and many questioned Martinez’s decision to start him over Leandro Trossard.

Hazard is often an unused substitute for Real Madrid, while Trossard has scored seven goals in 14 Premier League matches for Brighton & Hove Albion this season. It’ll be interesting to see what Martinez decides against Morocco.

The Belgians are in desperate need of striker Romelu Lukaku to make his return from injury, and he is still considered doubtful for the contest. Bayern Munich and Moroccan defender Noussair Mazraoui will likely also miss the match.

Morocco’s side may be an underdog, but they have quality players picked by manager Walid Regragui. Wingback Achraf Hakimi, (PSG) winger Hakim Ziyech (Chelsea) and striker Youssef En-Nesyri (Sevilla) are among the most gifted players in the squad.

At ESTNN, we believe Morocco’s tough defensive side will pose problems for the slow and aging Belgium attack. DraftKings Sportsbook is offering -115 odds for Morocco to cover a +0.5-goal spread.

Belgium vs. Morocco odds: under 2.5 goals scored @ -160 (Caesars)

Both Belgium and Morocco have trouble scoring goals. This makes the under-2.5 goals prop on Caesars extremely valuable at -160 odds.

In three of Belgium’s last six results, the total score in the game has consisted of just one goal. In four of the previous six, the total has been two or fewer.

When facing quality opponents such as Croatia, the USA, Ghana and Paraguay, the Atlas Lions scored only twice in those four contests. They are strong defensively and have recorded five shutouts in their last five matches.

Our pick is to take the under 2.5 goals prop. If you’re interested in reading about more betting lines in Qatar, visit our World Cup predictions page.
