Ravens vs Jets NFL week 1 odds, preview and current betting lines
The Ravens kick off the new season with a trip to the MetLife stadium in a match up that they are expected to go and win. It doesn’t take a genius to see why the Ravens are looked upon as favorites either with the Jets arriving into this season off the back of an utterly pathetic campaign that saw them end with a measly 4-13 record.
That noted, the Ravens didn’t have the best campaign in the world as they ended 2021/22 with a losing record. The one saving grace the Ravens have is the fact they could point to key injuries that derailed their campaign. After an offseason that has seen them tighten up on their defense, we should expect no such excuses this time round.
As for this history of this fixture, it’s completely plausible that the Jets are dreading opening day – even if they are a better team than they were a year ago. They’ve been taught a few lessons by the Ravens in recent clashes as they were notably battered 42-21 last time the two faced off. Let’s get looking at those NFL week 1 predictions.
Players to watch in the Ravens vs. Jets game
Lamar Jackson: Lamar Jackson is a huge weapon for the Ravens side and his fitness could prove vital in their quest to make the post-season. If he starts this season anything like he started last then you’re not going to want to miss it.
New York Jets
Joe Flacco: Joe Flacco hasn’t played a great deal of football of late but he’s set to come into the Jets lineup here with Zach Wilson missing. Not only does that bring a pressure on Flacco to perform but it tees things up nicely given he’s ex-Ravens – and a legendary one at that.
Our NFL bet of the week for the Ravens vs. Jets match
Right, with the preview over let’s move on to our predictions, after all, that’s the main reason you’re here.
Ravens vs Jets Spread betting: Ravens -6.5 @ -125
We begin our Ravens vs. Jets predictions with a spread bet of Ravens to win -6.5, which is on offer from BetRivers. There are a few ways we can cut the stats to support such a prediction as well so here goes. The Jets ended last season with four defeats in their final five games and three of those losses came by a margin of over 6.5 points – the exception being their 24-28 loss to the Buccs. Then you’ve got the Ravens’ displays to factor in; during pre-season 66% of their games ending with them winning by more than the required 6.5 threshold. Finally, we have the head to head record; with Baltimore having won nine of the last 10 clashes it’s clear they have the Jets number and, notably, each of the last three Ravens wins have been by a margin of at least seven points!
Ravens vs. Jets odds: Joe Flacco, under 1.5 passing touchdowns @ -190
Our second prediction for this match focuses on former Ravens hero Joe Flacco and, sorry Joe, we have this down as a match that won’t make for a happy return. Not only have we back his side to lose the game in our previous tip but now we’re digging at his potential performance as we say he will register fewer than two passing touchdowns. Flacco has obviously been a top tier quarterback in his time but, let’s face it, he’s only getting the nod here due to the injury to Zach Wilson. Flacco was only wheeled out twice last year and whilst he registered three passing touchdowns in those appearances he wasn’t met with a defense like he’s going to face here with the Ravens having tightened up that area of the last few months.
