The Purdue vs Saint Peter’s is perhaps the most interesting matchup in the Sweet Sixteen stage of the 2022 NCAA Tournament, mostly due to the Peacocks’ Cinderella story that started from the first round.

After all, Saint Peter’s is the 15th seed in the East Region and they weren’t supposed to make it past the first round. But the Peacocks did not pay much attention to those expectations when they beat Kentucky in overtime. The team than proceeded to exceed expectations with a win over Murray State in the second round. Saint Peter’s is 22-10 ATS this season and 13-20 for over/under.

The next obstacle for the Peacocks is Purdue, the third seed in the East Region and another huge favorite. Purdue didn’t have a lot of problems in the first two rounds in this year’s March Madness against Yale and Texas and the team seems confident on the court and ready to justify the favorite tag in this game. Purdue is 16-22 ATS this season and 20-18 for over/under.

So, it’s pretty clear that we are in for an exciting game and especially if you are a fan of Saint Peter’s March Madness storyline. Now it is time to dig into our predictions for this game, so keep on reading if you like to bet on March Madness and you want to check out some of our betting tips for Purdue vs Saint Peter’s.

Purdue vs Saint Peter’s Odds Analysis

March Madness odds often fluctuate from the opening odds to just before the tipoff, based on the bets placed and other factors. However, the Purdue vs Saint Peter’s game opened with Purdue as a 12.5 point favorite and the spread hasn’t moved at all since then.

On the other hand, the line for total points did move since total points opened at 135.5, but the line has since dropped to 133.5 total points. Clearly, the bettors expect this game to be tougher than the bookies initially predicted, meaning that they expect fewer points to be scored.

Saint Peter’s to Win on Spread (+12.5) @ -110

Call us sentimental, but we just can’t bet against the Peacocks after they provided us with such a wonderful story so far. That being said, our prediction is not only based on our sentiments towards Saint Peter’s – we did take the stats and all other important factors into account as well.

Most importantly, Purdue didn’t do that great this season when it comes to their ATS record since they are 16-22 ATS this season. From that perspective alone, betting on the Peacocks to come under the spread sounds like the best option, especially since Saint Peter’s is 22-10 ATS this season and 9-0 ATS in their last nine games.

The Boilermakers are one of the best offensive teams in the country and while Saint Peter’s has a pretty solid defense, that won’t be enough to stop Purdue from getting their own. But Saint Peter’s has done very well against better defenses than Purdue’s in the first two rounds of this NCAA Tournament, so we can see them staying in the game thanks to their offensive performance more than their defensive prowess.

In any case, we aren’t saying that the Peacocks will win this game. But we can certainly see them coming under the spread, especially since 12.5 points does seem a bit high for this stage of the tournament, even if this is a game between third and fifteenth seed.

Over 133.5 Total Points

As we previously mentioned, we expect this game to be decided by offensive showing by both teams. Sure, defense will play an important role, but with both teams doing great on the offensive end in the first two rounds, we feel that this game has the potential to go over the line of 133.5 total points.

After all, Purdue averaged 79.5 points per game in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, while Saint Peter’s averaged 70.5 points per game, and that’s excluding the 14 points that they scored in overtime against Kentucky. Furthermore, we’ve seen over total points in three of the fours games played by these two teams so far in March Madness.

Another factor that could put this game over could be the free throws. It’s inevitable that Saint Peter’s will have to resort to fouling to keep Purdue’s offense in check and we could see a lot of points scored from the charity stripe.
