Patriots vs. Jets Odds, Spread, Preview: NFL Week 8 Predictions

Patriots vs. Jets NFL week 8 odds, preview and current betting lines

This is a huge game in the AFC East and it is big for both sides too – albeit for different reasons. Cast your mind back to pre-season and most people had the Jets down as the East division whipping boys whilst the Patriots were tipped to be battling it out for the second place and potential wildcard entry to the post season. Back in the present day and the campaign has not remotely started in that manner.

The Jets were, true to expectation, walloped on the opening week of the season 24-9 by the Baltimore Ravens but, since then, they’ve only lost once more leaving them with a rather handsome looking record of 5-2 as they sit second to the Bills. The Patriots meanwhile have struggled big time. They currently sit on a 3-4 losing record and there are question marks over their QB1 with Max Jones and Bailey Zappe and, more importantly, the way in which Bill Belichick is using them. Another defeat here for the Pats would be really damaging to their prospects of resurrecting their season.

That brings us on nicely to the game itself. As already touched on, the quarterback position is obviously a big talking point in New England but it’s not the only area of the field that needs to be discussed. There is some good news for the Patriots as well; Kyle Dugger looks set to be available after suffering an injury last week whilst Josh Bledsoe is another that could be back in contention. Christian Barmore and David Andrew will not be involved.

As for the Jets, there was some big news out of New York this week with Breece Hall, who suffered an ACL tear, and Alijah Vera-Tucker both seeing their seasons come to an abrupt end. Then you’ve got Corey Davis who will be unavailable here too. That news pooled together puts a real dampener on the Jets’ good start to the campaign. Thankfully, they’re more than just a one man team; with Hall out Michael Carter will come into the fold whilst new man James Robinson may well come into the thinking as well.

Players to watch in the Patriots vs. Jets game

New England Patriots

Mac Jones: Mac Jones is getting the nod at QB for this one but he simply has to deliver. Not only are his side desperate for the win but for his own career – certainly in New England – he has to put on a strong performance.

New York Jets

Zach Wilson:

It’s another QB we’re calling out here. The Jets losing Hall to injury pours pressure on Wilson. The Patriots will feel they can shut him down; it’s up to the player to prove that he can do it without his buddy.

Our NFL bet of the week for the Patriots vs. Jets match

Right, with the preview over let’s move on to our predictions, after all, that’s the main reason you’re here.

Patriots vs. Jets Spread betting: Jets+3.5 @ -146

We kick off our tips for this match with a spread bet and, whilst we think the Jets will shade the money line, we don’t see there being a huge amount in this one. As such, we’re backing the Jets but also hedging our bets with a +3.5 spread. With the Jets having won their last four games and the Patriots having lost three of their last five, can you argue with that? We can’t!

Patriots vs. Jets odds: Total points over 40.5 @ -110

Our second prediction for this match up between the Patriots and the Jets comes from the total points market and we’re backing over 40.5 points. The Jets have seen two of their last four games go over the 40.5 marker with a game average across those four coming in at 40.8 points. The Patriots meanwhile have seen four of their last five – and each of their last two – clear the 40.5 hurdle with their average points per game in that period sitting at 48.6. Finally, you’ve got the head to head clashes to consider; the last meeting saw 67 points with a five game average of 46.0 ppg with three of those meetings going north of the all important threshold.
