Patriots vs. Browns NFL week 6 odds, preview and current betting lines
This match up looks set to be a highly intriguing affair – even if the idea of it unfolding as a classic is somewhat farfetched. The Patriots come into this match on quite the high after taking apart the Lions last week but that couldn’t be further from the truth for the Browns; things were going okay for them but two defeats on the bounce have sucked the morale out of the dressing room.
As for the way this game might unfold, our gut feel is that it could be a Bill Belichick masterclass. The Patriots coach is excellent at locking down the oppositions star players and for the Browns that honour belongs to Nick Chubb. If the Patriots can effectively take him out of the game then their chances of making it back to back wins will increase considerably.
Of course, the Patriots aren’t the only team trying to win this game. The Browns won’t be running scared of this side (nobody does anymore) and, ironically, they’ll see their running game as the best bet of getting the better of New England.
Players to watch in the Patriots vs. Browns game
New England Patriots
Baily Zappe: Bailey Zappe will be making just his second start for the Patriots but one game down and one win up isn’t a bad way to start your career. He’s not as accurate with the ball as Mac Jones but he’s probably superior in the athleticism department. If he can guide his team to another W here then the Jones vs Zappe debate might start to heat up.
Cleveland Browns
Nick Chubb: We’ve highlighted Chubb as a player the Patriots will try to stop but it won’t be easy. He’s recorded more rushing yards and touchdowns than any other player so far this season. If the Chubb lock down works, it’s genius. If it doesn’t, he probably ends up winning the game for the Browns.
Our NFL bet of the week for the Patriots vs. Browns match
Right, with the preview over let’s move on to our predictions, after all, that’s the main reason you’re here.
Patriots vs. Browns Spread betting: Patriots +2.5 @ -110
Our first tip for this match comes in the shape of a spread bet and we are fancying the Patriots at +2.5. The Patriots haven’t been firing on all cylinders this season but they were much improved last time out and that will have injected some good feeling back into the group. The other two things worth considering around the Patriots are a) how good Zappe could be at quarterback; he’s got a good arm and possesses a lot of power to his game and b) the targeting of Chubb; even if that tactic doesn’t work entirely, it’s going to slow him up and make him less impactful for sure.
You have then got to consider the Browns; they’ve been poor of late with two defeats in two. We do fully believe the Browns have a chance to win this match but we also believe it’s going to be a cagey and tight affair. With the small positive spread in favour of the Patriots, we think we’ve got it nailed.
Patriots vs. Browns odds: Kareem Hunt to score a TD @ +170
We now turn our attention to a player prop bet and we’re backing Browns man Kareem Hunt to score a touchdown. We’ve made a big song and dance about the fact the Patriots are going to try and keep Nick Chubb under lock and key. If the game does unfold in that manner then it’s highly likely the Browns start to hit other weapons – after all, Chubb might be a star but he’s not the only player capable of hurting teams.
One of the others is Kareem Hunt, who has two touchdowns to his name so far this season with one coming last time out. With Hunt having made at least 10 rushing attempts in every game so far this season, you can bet your bottom dollar he’ll at least have a chance to make this bet come in. For those reasons, we think the wager offers some real value.
