Carolina Panthers vs. Seattle Seahawks Week 14 matchup preview and current betting lines

The Seattle Seahawks will host the Carolina Panthers at Lumen Field and attempt to keep its playoff hopes alive. Kickoff is set for 4:25 and FOX is broadcasting the contest.

The Seahawks (7-5) are clinching for dear life to the No. 7 seed in the NFC. They trail the Giants (7-4-1) and remain ahead of the Commanders 7-5-1. The 49ers sit currently one game ahead of Pete Carroll’s team in the NFC West at 8-4.

After dropping two-straight games against Tampa Bay and Las Vegas, Seattle returned to winning ways last week with a 27-23 win over Los Angeles (Rams).

Geno Smith was clutch and put together a 10-play, 75-yard scoring drive capped off with an eight-yard touchdown to DK Metcalf which sealed the 27-23 victory.

The Panthers (4-8) have lost two of their last three contests but were able to dominate the Broncos 23-10 in week 13. Sam Darnold saw action at quarterback for the first time this season and completed 11-of-19 passes for 164 yards and a touchdown.

Oddsmakers at Caesars Sportsbook are favoring the Seahawks by 3.5 points. On the moneyline, Carolina is +170 and Seattle is -205. Gamblers have put 58% of their bets on the Seahawks to cover and 66% of the money is on them to win outright.

Players to watch in the Panthers vs. Seahawks contest

Panthers

D.J. Moore: The former first-rounder is one of the only players on offense to still remain on the team. Carolina received first-round offers for Moore before the trade deadline but declined them. The 25-year-old has 605 receiving yards and four touchdowns in 2022. He’s eclipsed 100 yards in two games as well.

Seahawks

DK Metcalf: The freakishly athletic receiver is always a threat outside and has been targeted 100 times this season. Metcalf has recorded 67 receptions for 798 yards and five touchdowns in 12 games.

Carolina vs. Seattle Alternate Spread: Seahawks -3.5 @ -115 (DraftKings)

After Russell Wilson departed for Denver in the offseason, it appeared Seattle was headed for a rebuild. Some analysts predicted the Washington-based team would finish with the worst record in the NFL.

Quarterback Geno Smith faced adversity as a backup and as a failed starter but has managed to silence doubters. The West Virginia product has posted some of the best stats at the quarterback position and could potentially reach his first Pro Bowl.

Geno Smith Stats

Passing yards: 3,169 (6th)

Touchdown passes: 22 (T-4th)

Interceptions: 6 (T-10th)

Quarterback rating: 64.9 (5th)

Smith’s stellar play has enabled Seattle to feature one of the best offenses in the league. The Seahawks rank fifth in points per game (26.5) and ninth in yards per outing (360.9).

The weight of the team has fallen on its quarterback’s shoulders due to its weak defense. The unit ranks 3rd-worst in total defense (382.9 yards per game) and 25th in points surrendered (25.3 PPG).

Seattle will take on a Carolina team that has struggled on both sides of the ball. Offensively, the Panthers rank 29th in total offense (291.3 YPG) and 25th in scoring (19.2 PPG). Defensively, the unit ranks 19th in yards allowed (348.2) and is giving up 22.2 points per contest (14th).

Carolina is 2-3 in its last five games and is 6-6 against the spread this year. Seattle is also 6-6 ATS but is 4-2 in the category in its previous six home games.

Our pick at ESTNN is to wager on the Seahawks to cover the 3.5-point spread. Caesars is offering -115 odds for the selection.

Carolina vs. Seattle odds: Tyler Lockett anytime touchdown scorer @ +137 (Bet365)

The former Kansas State Wildcat has been on a tear scoring a touchdown in each one of his last five contests. Lockett ranks tied for fifth in the NFL for touchdowns with seven on the year.

The shifty receiver quickly became one of Smith’s favorite targets. In 12 games, the 30-year-old has recorded 66 receptions for 836 yards on 90 targets.

He’ll have a good opportunity to break the plane once again since leading running back Kenneth Walker III will be a game-time decision. Even if Walker plays, he’ll likely be on a snap count due to an ankle injury.

Our pick is to wager Lockett to reach the end zone against the weak Panthers’ defense. Bet365 is providing bettors with +137 odds on its sportsbook.
