Packers vs. Buccaneers Week 3 matchup preview and current betting lines
Two guaranteed first-ballot hall of fame quarterbacks, Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady, go head to head in the tastiest matchup of the week Sunday. There’s no assurance both will be playing at this time next year, so be sure to take it in and enjoy the moment.
Despite the two legends being in the NFL for a combined 41 seasons, this is only the fifth meeting between the pair. Brady won the last meeting in the 2020 NFC Championship 31-26 and leads the all-time series 3-1.
Green Bay (1-1) rebounded with a dominating 27-10 win at Lambeau against the Bears in week 2 after losing in embarrassing fashion to Minnesota during its opener. Rodgers looked like himself as he went 19-of-25 for 234 yards and two touchdowns. The reigning back-to-back MVP is 9-0 following a loss in the Matt LaFleur era.
In the triumph, Rodgers meshed with newly acquired receiver Sammy Watkins and also spread the ball out to seven other receivers. Watkins led the receiving corps with three receptions for 93 yards.
Aaron Jones tore it up on the ground running for 132 yards on 15 carries and found the end zone twice. The Packers looked good on both sides of the ball and after taking the lead early in the second quarter, went on to outscore Chicago 24-3.
Tampa Bay (2-0) is coming off a comfortable 20-10 win over New Orleans. Brady didn’t light up the box score but did enough to lead his team to victory. The Bucs’ defensive unit has played excellent in 2022, allowing an NFL-best 6.5 points per game. The secondary intercepted Jameis Winston three times which included a 68-yard pick-six.
The current moneyline odds for this game on BetMGM are Green Bay (+100) at Tampa Bay (-120). The spread favors Tampa Bay by a point at -110 odds. In terms of money, 65% is on the Bucs while 61% of bets are on the Packers to win straight up.
Players to watch in the Green Bay vs. Tampa contest
Green Bay
Romeo Doubs: The rookie wide receiver had a great training camp and is slowly improving his connection with Rodgers. The fourth-round pick leads all Green Bay receivers in targets with eight. Allen Lazard, Sammy Watkins, Randall Cobb and Christian Watson didn’t practice Thursday so the rookie could see increased playing time come Sunday.
Tampa Bay
Leonard Fournette: The veteran running back will be leaned on heavily as Tampa Bay will be without Mike Evans (suspension) and likely Chris Godwin (injured). Against the Saints, Fournette averaged 2.7 yards per tote and has failed to reach the end zone this season. In 2021, the LSU product had 1,266 total yards with 10 total touchdowns.

Green Bay vs Tampa Spread: Packers Moneyline @ +100
The Packers’ defense has played well in its last two games allowing only 16.5 points per game. In the week 1 loss to Minnesota, the game script was against the unit due to Rodgers and the offense being unable to move the ball.
Green Bay’s defense limited Justin Fields to only 70 passing yards with an interception for a QBR of 6.8. Up front, the Packers were able to break through and sack Fields three times. In 2021, Green Bay ranked first in total defense. Obviously, Tom Brady isn’t Fields but his life will probably be made difficult in the contest.
With Tampa missing Evans, presumably Godwin and Julio Jones, (did not practice Thursday) Green Bay has an opportunity to win at Raymond James Stadium. Brady struggled to move the chains against New Orleans going 18-of-34 for 140 yards and a touchdown. His quarterback rating on the season is 38.6 (23rd in the NFL). The 45-year-old hasn’t attacked the middle of the field and seems to be missing his best friend Rob Gronkowski.
The Packers’ rushing attack will be hard to stop with both Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon being receiving threats as well. PFF’s rushing grade ranks Green Bay as first in the NFL (85.8). The Packers are the most complete team on both sides of the ball Tampa will face so far.
Green Bay is 14-5 straight up in its last 19 games played. At ESTNN we believe the Packers will beat the Bucs in Tampa.
Packers vs. Buccaneers odds: Leonard Fournette over 27.5 receiving yards @ +105
Leonard Fournette will be one of the primary receivers out of the backfield due to Tampa’s plethora of missing weapons. Last campaign, Fournette went over the 27.5-yard receiving mark in 8-of-17 games. He’ll likely be targeted more than usual Sunday. The previous year Fournette recorded 69 catches on 84 targets for 454 receiving yards. The 27-year-old is Tampa’s primary back and has played 81.5% of the team’s offensive snaps.
Running backs are finding success against the Green Bay defense through two weeks. In week 1, Dalvin Cook averaged six yards per reception followed by David Montgomery (seven yards per reception) in week 2.
