New York Jets vs. Green Bay Packers Week 6 matchup preview and current betting lines
The Green Bay Packers return home to Lambeau Field and are set to host the New York Jets after traveling to London last week. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
It was certainly a disappointing afternoon for Aaron Rodgers and the Packers last week when they fell to the Jets, 27-22. Green Bay jumped out to a 17-3 lead midway through the second quarter. The offense became stagnant and went on to score just a field goal for the remainder of the game. New York outscored Green Bay 24-5 to close out the game.
The Packers (3-2) needed one yard on 3rd and 4th down at the Giants’ six-yard line to either earn a first down or take the lead with 1:11 left in the fourth quarter. Rodgers threw two incompletions and turned it over on downs. New York took an intentional safety to waste time and gave Rodgers one last chance at a Hail Mary, but the back-to-back MVP was unable to launch the ball in the air due to pressure. It was a surprising loss for the heavily 8-point favored Packers.
Rodgers had a solid day through the air despite the two incompletions at the end. The 38-year-old went 25-of-39 for 222 yards and two scores. It was a surprising loss for Green Bay after previously having strung together three-straight victories.
The Jets (3-2) have shocked many pundits with their positive start to the season. If they can pull off the massive upset at Green Bay, the team will have three wins in a row. Last week, New York blew out the Dolphins 40-17. The win looks impressive on paper, but backup Miami quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was hurt in the first quarter, forcing Miami to lean on the shoulders of third-stringer Skyler Thompson.
Zach Wilson played his second game in a row after returning from injury. The BYU product went 14-of-21 for 210 yards and had a quarterback rating of 56. He also added a rushing touchdown.
The current moneyline odds for this matchup on Caesars Sportsbook are New York (+278) vs. Green Bay (-357). Oddsmakers favor the Packers as 7.5-point favorites at -110 odds. Among the public, 59% of spread bets have been placed on the Jets to cover. In terms of money, 74% of it is on the Jets to cover.
Players to watch in the New York vs. Green Bay contest
New York
Breece Hall: The 2022 No. 36 overall pick had his best game as a pro in the Jets’ win over Miami. Hall rushed 18 times for 97 yards and a score. He also had two catches for 100 yards including a 79-yarder. It appeared early in the season as if Hall and Michael Carter would split carries, but the Iowa State product out carried Carter 18-10 Sunday and is averaging 4.9 yards per attempt, compared to Carter’s 3.4.
Green Bay
Allen Lazard: The fourth-year wideout is supposed to be Rodgers’ new WR1. After Davante Adams was traded to the Raiders and Marquez Valdes-Scantling left for Kansas City, Lazard remains the most formidable threat in the receiving corps. The former Iowa State Cyclone has 16 receptions (25 targets) for 209 yards and three touchdowns in four games played (Missed week 1 due to injury). It’ll be up to Lazard to find open space and help keep Green Bay’s passing game dangerous.

New York vs. Green Bay Spread: Green Bay -7.5 @ -110
All signs point to Green Bay returning home and taking care of business. Aaron Rodgers is 8-0 coming off a loss in the Matt LaFleur era. In those outings, the 4-time MVP has thrown for 2,075 yards, 22 touchdowns, zero interceptions and has a 120.6 passer rating.
Rodgers is 85-18-1 at Lambeau Field during the regular season. Although, he hasn’t looked exactly in MVP form this season. Through five games, Rodgers has thrown for 1,157 yards, eight touchdowns, (tied for ninth in the league) three interceptions and has a quarterback rating of 44.9 (20th). The departure of his favorite All-Pro receiver (Adams) has been tough.
The Packers rank ninth in total offense (362.2 yards per game) but have struggled to put points on the board with an average of 19.4 per contest (22nd). At Lambeau, they are averaging 27 points per game.
Defensively, Green Bay is fifth in total defense (303.3 yards per game) and 11th in points per game (19.2). The unit finished 2021 as the No. 1 ranked defense in the NFL.
LaFleur has been extremely successful throughout his first three seasons as head coach. The 42-year-old has won at least 13 games every season and hasn’t lost more than four games. The Packers already have two losses so it’ll be time for them to put up or shut up vs. the Jets.
The Jets’ three wins this season came against opponents with subpar quarterbacks: Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Miami. The Browns started backup Jacoby Brissett, Mitch Trubisky was benched for rookie Kenny Pickett vs. the Jets and the Dolphins were forced to play with a third-string quarterback for most of the game.
The two losses against stronger opponents, the Ravens (24-9) and Bengals, (27-12) were blowouts. It’ll likely be a struggle for the Jets to keep pace with the Packers’ balanced team. Rodgers clearly has a strong edge in the quarterback matchup as well.
We believe at ESTNN that Green Bay will cover the 7.5-point spread. Caesars Sportsbook is offering -110 spread odds.
Jets vs. Packers odds: Breece Hall over 82.5 receiving/rushing yards @ -120
Breece Hall appears to be the primary back in the Jets’ offense after splitting the role earlier in the season with Michael Carter. Against the Dolphins, Hall recorded 197 total yards.
The 21-year-old has been the main receiving back and through five games is averaging 42.6 receiving yards per contest. In the last two games, Hall has 35 carries for 163 yards on the ground.
Green Bay is 21st versus the run this season and struggled against Saquon Barkley last week. Barkley recorded 70 yards on 13 carries and caught three balls for 36 yards (106 total yards).
Since Hall is now the top rushing threat, it’s likely he’ll pose problems for Green Bay. Even if the game script is flipped against the run, he’ll probably be heavily involved in the passing game. Our pick is to take the over 82.5 receiving and rushing yards on DraftKings at -120 odds.
