Miami Dolphins vs. San Francisco 49ers Week 13 matchup preview and current betting lines

The Miami Dolphins will head to Levi’s Stadium to take on the San Francisco 49ers. The bout is set for 4:05 p.m. ET and FOX will broadcast the matchup.

It’ll be a battle between teacher and student as Kyle Shanahan hosts his former offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. The 39-year-old has enjoyed success in his first season as Dolphins’ head coach with an 8-3 record.

Miami is currently the fifth seed in the AFC standings and is half a game back of AFC East leaders Buffalo (9-3). Kansas City is one game 1.5 games ahead of McDaniels’ team at 9-2.

The 49ers are 7-4 and currently trail the No. 1 seed Eagles (10-1) and Vikings 9-2. The top overall seed in each division is awarded a first-round bye.

The Dolphins are coming off a 30-15 win over Houston and have won five-straight games. Shanahan’s squad is on a four-game winning streak and enters the game after a 13-0 win over the Saints last Sunday.

Oddsmakers at Caesars Sportsbook are favoring San Francisco by four points. On the moneyline, the 49ers are -195 and the Dolphins sit at +162. Bettors have put 79% of their bets on Miami to cover and 70% of the money on San Francisco to win straight up.

Players to watch in the Dolphins vs. 49ers contest

Tyreek Hill: Many pundits thought the former Chief would see a dip in production when switching from Patrick Mahomes to Tagovailoa. This hasn’t been the case as Hill leads the entire NFL in receiving yards (1,233). The 28-year-old speedster has also recorded 87 receptions (2nd) and broken the plane four times.

San Francisco

Jimmy Garoppolo: The 31-year-old signal caller will have to put on a solid performance against MVP candidate Tagovailoa if he wants to keep pace with the highly-efficient Dolphins passing game. Garoppolo has thrown for 16 touchdowns and just four interceptions but features a passer rating of 53.9 (17th).

Our NFL bet of the week for the Dolphins vs. 49ers

ESTNN is providing bettors with two free selections for this game.

Miami vs. San Francisco Alternate Spread: Dolphins +4 @ -110 (Caesars)

There were doubters who said Tua Tagovailoa wouldn’t pan out to be NFL talent when he came out of Alabama in 2020. The stats below showcase how the 24-year-old has performed compared to other NFL quarterbacks around the league.

Tua Tagovailoa Stats

Passing yards: 2,564 (14th)

Touchdown passes: 19 (T-5th)

Interceptions: 3 (T-2nd)

Quarterback rating: 82.6 (1st)

The former fifth overall pick has silenced doubters and is the third-betting favorite (+500) to lift the MVP Trophy. Only Patrick Mahomes (-160) and Jalen Hurts (+400) stand in his way.

Miami boasts one of the league’s bests air attacks and is ranked third in total offense (386.7 yards per game). In terms of points per contest, McDaniels’ scheme has produced 25.6, good for sixth in the NFL.

On the other side of the ball, the Dolphins are slightly below average owning the 17th-ranked total defense and surrendering 343.4 yards per outing. Opponents have found success putting an average of 23.3 points on the board per week (20th).

The 49ers are extremely well-balanced. Shanahan leads the No. 1 total defense in yards (281.7) and points allowed (15.7). The offensive unit is 10th in total yards (358.5) and 15th in points per contest (22.6).

Both organizations are 6-5 against the spread this season. Miami would probably be better against the spread had Tagovailoa not missed a few games due to two concussions.

At ESTNN, we believe this matchup will remain close and the four-point spread allows the Dolphins some leeway to cover the spread. Caesars is offering -110 odds for Miami’s four-point spread.

Miami vs. San Francisco odds: Jeff Wilson Jr. anytime touchdown scorer @ +130 (Bet365)

Mike McDaniels wanted to reunite with his former running back and add depth to the position so he traded a 2023 fifth-round pick for Wilson Jr. Since the trade, the former North Texas product has become the primary back in Miami’s offense.

In the last two games, Wilson Jr. has received 17 and 13 carries. He’s also reached the end zone in all three games he’s played for Miami (Two rushing and one receiving).

Backup running back Raheem Mostert often takes away a few carries but is currently nursing an injury and is questionable for the contest. If active, he’ll likely see limited action.

Wilson Jr. has seen seven red zone rushing attempts and two targets against Houston, Cleveland and Chicago. Our pick is to wager him to score against San Francisco at +130 odds on Bet365 Sportsbook.
