Memphis Grizzlies vs. Golden State Warriors Game 6 Preview

This series has had just about everything except an overtime game. But Game 5 was truly a shocking result as the Warriors had not lost a playoff game by 39 points in eight years. Memphis’ offense looked left for dead in Game 4 before scoring 77 points in the first half on Wednesday.

But this is in line with the strange season the Grizzlies have had. They are now 21-6 without superstar point guard Ja Morant. We knew the defense could step up, but it did not seem like the offense had it in them to get the job done in this series. But Desmond Bane, Tyus Jones, and Jaren Jackson Jr. all scored 21 points on a night where Memphis hit 18 threes for only the fifth time this season.

Memphis is now 32-0 when scoring at least 120 points this season. That’s the most wins and the fewest losses when doing that.

Golden State’s largest defeat this regular season was 28 points in Memphis back in March, but Steph Curry did not play that game. He barely played in Game 5 too as he finished with 14 points in 25 minutes. The Warriors were sloppy with 22 turnovers. Golden State also had just four offensive rebounds as the Warriors went big again with center Steven Adams (13 rebounds in 21 minutes). Golden State has six games with fewer than five offensive rebounds this season and half of them are against Memphis.

It’s going to take quite the effort to win in Golden State, but the Grizzlies have had such a unique season that they may be the most prepared team ever to come back from a 3-1 deficit without their best player available.
