Lions vs Giants matchup preview and current betting lines
The Detroit Lions are fresh off their third win of the season and the second in as many weeks. Dan Campbell’s team is definitely building some momentum, and they feel like they can never be counted out of any game.
However, inconsistency has once again plagued their season and doomed them to think and plan ahead to the NFL Draft instead of the postseason. They have either competed until the very end of the game, even vs. contenders, or they’ve been completely blown out. There’s no in-between.
On the other side of the field, we’ll find Brian Daboll’s New York Giants, a team that has fared much better than expected and that seems ready to put those never-ending woes behind, even with Daniel Jones as their starting quarterback.
The Giants’ defense has been excellent, and their running game, anchored by Saquon Barkley, has led them to an impressive 7-2 record. They still have a shot at winning their division, as they now trail the Philadelphia Eagles by just one game.
Players to watch:
Amon-Ra St. Brown: Amon-Ra St. Brown playing with Jared Goff is like giving your grandma the keys to a Ferrari. He’s an athletic freak, and the fact that he continues to put up elite production with Goff at QB should be testament enough.
Darius Slayton: Darius Slayton has put his career back on track over the past month and a half. He’s become Daniel Jones’ favorite target and continues to make the most of every chance he’s gotten, even allowing them to finally bench Kenny Golladay.
Week 11 Predictions: NFL Bet of the week on Lions vs Giants
Giants -3
The opening Lions vs Giants spread has the home side favored by just a field goal here. Maybe, oddsmakers want to trick us into thinking the Lions will continue their hot stretch and either get their third win in a row or lose by a close margin.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves for a second. There’s no way this team will win three consecutive games. Not now, not ever, especially when facing one of the best, most physical defensive units in the league while on the road.
The Giants have also been resilient and can’t be counted out of any game. Jones is playing the best football of his career, and Saquon Barkley is the most disruptive force out of the backfield when healthy, which has been the case this season.
You know it’s just a matter of time before Jared Goff does Jared Goff things and hands the football over to the rivals. And that’s a luxury he simply cannot afford against a stout team with a solid running game like the Giants.
Under 45
The opening Lions vs Giants odds have this game sitting at just 45 points. This might seem shocking, given how well the Lions have fared offensively over the past four weeks. But then again, those past games could be somewhat misleading.
The Lions caught a massive break, with Justin Field giving them the football just a couple of steps away from his own endzone. They’re the ultimate boom-or-bust team offensively, as they can either fail to move the chains or explode for 30+ yards.
The Giants’ stout defense won’t allow many big plays, if any. Also, Brian Daboll will feed Saquon Barkley as early and often as he can. They thrive when controlling the pace of the game and keeping the game clock running.
Also, the Lions have been brutal on the road, and a trip to the Big Apple isn’t what they need to keep this momentum going. We expect this to be a 24-14 kind of game with not many big plays or highlights, at least offensively.
