Lions vs Bears: Odds, Spread, Preview: NFL Week 10 Predictions

Lions vs Bears matchup preview and current betting lines

Two lifelong divisional foes will square up again when the red-hot Chicago Bears host the ever-struggling Detroit Lions at the mythical Soldier Field. Notably, this will be a tale of two teams heading in opposite directions right now.

Despite losing some key pieces on their defense, the Bears have looked like a much better team over the past two or three weeks. Justin Fields has finally looked the part, and he’s coming off a record-breaking performance vs. the Miami Dolphins.

All of a sudden, it seems like the Bears have a legit shot of sneaking their way into the wild card. Their once-erratic and dormant offense has turned the page, and facing a terrible defense like the Lions’ is what they need to get going.

The Lions are fresh off upsetting Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers at home, so they may feel great about themselves right now. Notably, that means they could be in for a rude awakening when they face another divisional rival.

Players to watch:

Aidan Hutchinson: Second-overall pick Aidan Hutchinson has been quite solid thus far, logging 20 total tackles and 4.5 sacks in his first season in the NFL. He now gets a stout challenge vs. an O-Line that’s looked much better over the past month.

Justin Fields: Justin Fields had done little to prove that he was going to be good in the NFL, but he’s put together three straight impressive games and is fresh off setting the all-time record for most rushing yards in a game by a QB.

Week 10 Predictions: NFL Bet of the week on Lions vs Bears

Bears -3

The opening Lions vs Bears spread has the home team as three-point favorites. All things considered, that could lead some to think of this as a bit of a trap game, as most metrics favor the Chicago Bears and that number seems quite short.

That’s why we believe there’s plenty of value with the Bears in this setup. It’s a huge letdown spot for the Lions after an emotional, hard-fought win that went down to the wire, and the Bears will be extra motivated after last week’s tough loss.

Also, it’s not like the Lions shut down the Packers as much as the Packers shot themselves in the foot over and over. Green Bay put up over 400 yards of total offense but failed to execute in the red zone and turned the ball over multiple times.

The Bears made it a game vs. a legit contender like the Dolphins and have now proven that they can run the football against the stoutest of defenses. This should be quite a lopsided matchup between a team on the rise and one that’s simply not very good.

Under 48.5

The opening Lions vs Bears odds have this game sitting at a whopping 48.5 points. This is massively misleading, as most of it has to do with the Lions’ terrible defense and the Bears’ offensive explosion from the past week.

But in reality, the Lions have been brutal offensively on the road, as opposed to a more competent team at home. Also, it’s not like the Bears feature an explosive offense or a lot of playmakers who can break tackles in the open field.

This game will most likely feature long, erratic series with most of the damage being done on the ground. Justin Fields will continue to find ways to move the chains with his feet rather than creating big gains with his arm.

Also, we believe the Bears will blow out the Lions in this matchup, thus leading to plenty of garbage time and both teams just going through the motions to try and get the game over with. Don’t expect a lot of points on this one, or at least not as many as 49.
