The National Championship Game of the 2022 NCAA Tournament is hours away and the two teams that will compete in the final game of this unforgettable March Madness are Kansas Jayhawks and North Carolina Tar Heels. While Kansas was among the favorites to get to this stage since they were the first seed in the Midwest Region, North Carolina managed to get here as the eighth seed in the East Region.

Along the way, North Carolina had to fend off some great teams, including the No.1 seed in the East Baylor, then UCLA, and then finally Duke in their semi-final duel of the Final Four 2022. Clearly, the Tar Heels have the quality to go all the way – but do they have enough left in the tank for that, both physically and mentally?

Before we dig deeper into the analysis and answer that questions, let’s take a look at some key stats that you need to consider before betting on March Madness final game.

  • Kansas is 22-19 ATS this season
  • North Carolina is 21-17 ATS this season
  • Kansas is 21-20 over/under this season
  • North Carolina is 22-16 over/under this season

Kansas vs North Carolina

Kansas vs North Carolina Odds Analysis

March Madness odds for Kansas vs North Carolina, like odds for any other game, aren’t special. They can fluctuate and change right up to the kickoff, as well spreads and total point lines. That means that odds may change, but we didn’t see them change much since they were announces.

Kansas has been made a 4.5-point favorite and that’s no surprise at all since Kansas is similar to Duke in term of being favorites to go all the way, and the spread on Duke against North Carolina was also 4.5 points. On the other hand, the line for total points has been set at 152.5, although some bookies offer a line of 151.5 total points.

North Carolina vs Kansas Predictions

So, now that we took a closer look at some basic stats and odds regarding the National Championship Game, it’s time to share our predictions. We took the odds and lines from DraftKings and you can also check some of their March Madness offers while you’re at it. Here are our picks:

Kansas to Win on Spread (-4.5) @ -110

North Carolina is a tough team, a great rebounding team, and they score plenty of three pointers, especially during this tournament. They showed just how good they are by beating teams like Baylor, UCLA, and Duke, so it would be foolish to underestimate them ahead of the National Championship Game.

However, the Tar Heels enter this game after a tough duel against Duke only a couple of nights ago. This was a hard-fought game that went to the wire and UNC finally won the match by just four points. More importantly, North Carolina’s center Armando Bacot, who finished the game against Duke with 11 points and 16 rounds, left the game at one point after spraining his ankle. Bacot eventually came back into the game, but his status is up in the air ahead of the finals and even if he plays, it’s a question whether he will be at 100%.

This is not the only reason why we would bet on the Jayhawks to cover the spread in this game, but it is the most important one. In addition to this, Kansas seemed to be playing better as the tournament went on since they won by single digits games against Creighton and Providence, but they were pretty convincing against Villanova in the semis. Kansas is an experienced team made up mostly of seniors, so we don’t expect them to crack under pressure.

All in all, Kansas is our pick to win the game and cover the spread.

Over 152.5 Total Points

So far, North Carolina scored 95, 93, 73, and 81 points in their four games in the tournament, which means that they averaged 85.5 points per game so far. Meanwhile, Kansas scored 83, 79, 66, and 81 points in their games, averaging 77.5 points per game. Simple math suggests that we can expect around 160 points to be scored in the finals.

Of course, that’s not how basketball works and there are many other factors to consider in addition to points per game when thinking about a bet on total points. That being said, we can see a lot of points beings scored in the Kansas vs North Carolina duel. Both teams are on a shooting tear during this tournament and we don’t see that changing in the final.

North Carolina also has a lot of second-chance points thanks to their exquisite rebounding, but big part of that is Armando Bacot, so we come back to his status for the game. But even without Bacot, North Carolina has enough offensive firepower to make us feel confident that the Tar Heels can score their portion in this game.

So, our points prediction for the National Championship Game is over 152.5 total points.
