New York Jets vs. Seattle Seahawks Week 17 matchup preview and current betting lines
The Jets will travel to Lumen Field to take on the Seahawks Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET and the matchup can be seen on FOX.
After starting the season 6-3, Seattle (7-8) has lost five of its last six games and is currently on a three-game losing streak. It appeared as if Pete Carroll’s team was playoff bound, but it’ll need to win out in order to have a chance at qualifying for the postseason.
New York (7-8) also had a hot start to the year and seemed destined for the playoffs. Robert Saleh’s squad was 7-4 a month ago but has managed to drop four-straight contests.
The Seahawks are coming off a 24-10 loss to Kansas City. It’s been a struggle to produce offense as the unit has scored 23 total points over the last two weeks.
The Jets will try and bounce back after falling 19-3 to the Jaguars in week 16. Zach Wilson and Chris Streveler both saw action but starting quarterback Mike White has finally returned from injury.
Wilson was benched during the loss and has been shut down for the season. Streveler will move into a backup role once again.
Oddsmakers at DraftKings Sportsbook favor the Jets by 1.5 points over the Seahawks. On the moneyline, New York is -130 and Seattle is +110.
The game total for the contest is set at 42.5 points. Bettors have put 58% of their wagers on the Jets to cover and 80% of the money on them to win outright.
Players to watch in the Jets vs. Seahawks contest
Zonovan Knight: The undrafted rookie became the starter at tailback after Breece Hall went down with an ACL injury. Knight saw at least 14 or more carries and eclipsed 76 total yards in his first three games seeing action. Last week, he struggled with Wilson at quarterback earning only six totes but should bounce back with White under center.
DK Metcalf: The 6-foot-4 weapon at wideout cracked 1,000 yards receiving for the second time in his four-year career. Metcalf has recorded 86 receptions for 1,005 yards and six touchdowns this season. The Ole Miss product has eclipsed 70 yards receiving in five of his last six outings. Tyler Lockett (pictured below) is scheduled to return this week and should open things up for Metcalf.

New York vs. Seattle Alternate Spread: Seahawks +3.5 @ -163 (DraftKings)
The Seahawks will likely see one of their top wideouts, Tyler Lockett, return to the field. The 30-year-old missed week 16 with a hand injury but says he plans to play.
The Pro Bowler has recorded 78 receptions for 964 yards and eight touchdowns (T-5th in the NFL) this season. He’ll try and gain at least 36 yards against the Jets so he can crack 1,000 yards for the fourth-consecutive campaign.
Geno Smith has played stellar football in 2022 for Seattle and Carroll is probably relieved he’s found an answer at quarterback. The following stats showcase how well Smith has played through 15 games.
A historic season rewarded with his first Pro Bowl selection!
— Seattle Seahawks (@Seahawks) December 22, 2022
Geno Smith Stats
Passing yards: 3,886 (8th)
Touchdown passes: 27 (T-4th)
Interceptions: 9 (T-17th)
Quarterback rating: 63.4 (5th)
The Seahawks’ defense has been a major culprit in the team’s troubles late in games. The unit ranks fourth-worst in both total and scoring defense by surrendering 373.4 yards per game and 25.3 points per game.
Seattle’s offense is ninth in points per contest (24.3) and 13th in yards per week (348.5). They’ll face a Jets’ defense that is fourth in scoring (18.8 PPG) and third in yards allowed (309.3 YPG).
The problem has been offensively for the Jets as they’ve scored 18.9 points per game (25th) and posted 329.5 yards per game (21st). White is a better quarterback than Wilson and more efficient but still isn’t anywhere near the top half of quarterbacks in the league.
The 27-year-old is 1-2 as a starter this season and has thrown two picks and zero touchdowns in his last two games.
Seattle is 6-9 against the spread in 2022 but is 4-1 ATS in its last five games against New York. The Jets are 8-7 ATS this year but are 2-4 ATS in their last six contests.
At ESTNN, we believe it’s safer to take Seattle to cover an alternate 3.5-point spread. DraftKings Sportsbook is offering -163 odds for the wager.
Jets vs. Seahawks odds: Garrett Wilson over 60 receiving yards @ -154 (FanDuel)
Jets rookie wide receiver Garrett Wilson stated he’d go to war for Mike White. After seeing the production when the quarterback is under center, it’s easy to see why Garrett has such high praise for the Western Kentucky product.
The following game log highlights Wilson’s stats when White started.
Garrett Wilson Game Log with Mike White
Dec. 11 @ Buffalo: six receptions for 78 yards
Dec. 4 at MIN: eight receptions for 162 yards
Nov. 27 vs. CHI: five receptions for 98 yards
In the three games partnered with White, the former Ohio State Buckeye has recorded 338 yards and an average of 112.7 per game. Wilson also saw 30 targets during that span.
For the entire season, the No. 10 overall pick is averaging 66.4 yards per game despite playing with four different signal callers. Our pick is to take Wilson to record 60 or more yards against the Seahawks’ defense that ranks 29th in yards per game.
