Jets vs. Browns NFL week 2 odds, preview and current betting lines
Let’s just park the game itself for a moment here and instead focus on what could happen here if the Browns are to win; they made a good start to the campaign last weekend as they struck in the dying seconds to see off the Panthers 26-24 moving them to 1-0 for the season. Well, remarkably, they have not won both their opening two games of a NFL season for 29 years! With a hugely unfancied Jets side coming to visit that woeful run could be about to end. Considering that their roster is not at full strength due to Deshaun Watson being out, that would be quite the start.
By stark contrast, the Jets fell to a highly predictable defeat in game week one and they now come into this game hoping to end a streak of rubbish starts; each of the last three seasons have seen them start off with a 0-2 record and, obviously, that’s in danger of becoming the case for four years on the spin. That said, it’s not all negatives for the Jets. Despite their week one loss, they can at least point to having shown a reasonably organized defense.
So, with the Jets looking solid-ish and the Browns missing their star quarterback, is this match up as straightforward to predict as many anticipate? Let’s get our thoughts below.
Players to watch in the Jets vs. Browns game
New York Jets:
Joe Flacco: Joe Flacco is an experienced head and he needs to harness all of that wisdom here. Zach Wilson is still out but Flacco put in a ropey showing last week to the point where some fans have been hyping up QB3 to start this game. It’s been confirmed Flacco will get the nod though so it will be interesting to see how he handles all of that pressure.
Cleveland Browns:
Donovan Peoples-Jones: In game week one, Donovan Peoples-Jones stood out for the Browns and we’re really keen to see if he can deliver the goods again. Not only did the former Michigan Wolverine show talent and composure beyond his years but he was the main Browns hit man and is clearly seen as a weapon.
Our NFL bet of the week for the Jets vs. Browns match
Right, with the preview over let’s move on to our predictions, after all, that’s the main reason you’re here.
Jets vs. Browns Spread betting: Jets +6.5 @ -110
Do we think the Jets will win this game? No. No we do not. That said, we are not convinced they’ll be battered out of sight either and, as such, we’re backing them to win with +6.5 spread. The Browns have not won by that sort of margin in any of their last three games whilst only two of the last five head to heads have seen the Browns emerge victorious with that many excess points on show. The Jets meanwhile have only lost two of their last five games by margins larger that 6.5 points so 60% of their recent games have been within that point differential. Throw into the mix that the Browns are probably missing their best players and Jets +6.5 looks more than reasonable.
Jets vs. Browns odds: Total points over 39.5 @ -105
Our next prediction for this game is that we see over 39.5 total points. The Browns have seen each of their last three games move north of that 39.5 threshold with the Jets having gone over it in three of their past four games. On top of that, if you extend that form to a five game view, both sides have PPG averages over the 39.5 cut off; for the Browns their average is 41.2 with the Jets coming in a tad higher at 42.6. With both sides having a lot to play for, a high scoring game isn’t out of the question.
