Jaguars vs Eagles Week 4 matchup preview and current betting lines
The Jacksonville Jaguars will look to continue their solid start of the season when they face arguably the best team in the National Football League thus far. Trevor Lawrence has looked the part in his first season under Doug Pederson, and his chemistry with Christian Kirk has been off the charts.
The Jaguars drew plenty of criticism in the offseason for all the money they spent on medium-tier players. But so far so good for the Florida team, which will now face its toughest task yet during a complicated trip to the City of Brotherly Love.
The Philadelphia Eagles went from ‘this team really did things well in the offseason’ to ‘wow, these guys could mess around and make the Super Bowl again.’ They’re sitting at a perfect 3-0 record and have dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the field.
Nick Sirianni’s team has shut down all doubts about how well they’d perform with Jalen Hurts still leading the way. He’s been elite at pulling the strings of the offense and has been as efficient with his arm as he’s been with his feet.
Players to watch:
Christian Kirk: It was clear that expectations would be high for Christian Kirk after signing such a big deal in the offseason, but he hasn’t felt that pressure yet. He’s coming off hauling in 6 receptions on nine targets for 72 yards and one score and is up to 3 touchdown receptions in as many weeks this season.
Jalen Hurts: Hurts has been an early MVP candidate thus far. He’s demolished every defense he’s faced and is coming off putting up 340 passing yards and three touchdowns vs. the Washington Commanders. He heard all the noise and has played with a chip on his shoulder all season long.
Week 4 Predictions: NFL Bet of the week on Jaguars vs Eagles
Eagles -6.5
The Jaguars vs Eagles spread has the home side favored by nearly a touchdown. The Jacksonville Jaguars just put an impressive defensive effort vs. the Los Angeles Chargers and their explosive offense. But, to be fair, we should take this one with a grain of salt, as Justin Herbert was clearly hurt and uncomfortable after suffering a rib cartilage fracture last week vs. the Chiefs.
They’ll now face a fully healthy Philadelphia Eagles offense that has marched up and down the field nearly at will through the first three weeks of the season. Jalen Hurts is slinging the ball downfield, and they have way too many bodies on the running back corps that can also find gaps and hurt you.
Also, DeVonta Smith has finally woken up after a subpar start to the campaign. He hauled in eight receptions for 169 yards and one touchdown, reminding us all that he’s no WR2 to AJ Brown’s WR1. They’re 1A and 1B, and defenses need to treat them as such.
All things considered, the Eagles have been the most round-up team throughout the first three weeks of the season, not to mention the fact that they’re 2-1 against the spread as well, including back-to-back covers by a very, very wide margin.
Over 48
Unsurprisingly, the Jaguars vs Eagles odds have this game total sitting at a whopping 48 points, which makes perfect sense considering how great both offenses have looked throughout the first three weeks of the campaign.
The Jags have a solid one-two punch on the ground with James Robinson and Travis Etienne Jr. Also, their receiving corps may not be as impressive as the Eagles’, but Christian Kirk continues to silence his critics with his speed, and Evan Engram is slowly becoming one of Trevor Lawrence’s favorite targets.
The Eagles average 28.7 points per game and proved that they could put up points in a heartbeat by torching the Washington Commanders for 24 points in just one quarter. They also lead the league in total yards per game at 455.7.
Both of these defenses have fared quite well thus far, allowing just 12.7 and 16-7 points per game, which are the fourth and seventh-best marks in the NFL, respectively. Still, we believe the offense will prevail in a game that could be an exciting shootout from start to finish.
