Giants vs. Titans Week 1 matchup preview and current betting lines
The Giants and new coach Brian Daboll head to Tennessee week 1 as they take on Mike Vrabel and the Titans.
Daboll was brought in to replace Joe Judge after his mediocre 4-13 record. Judge’s failure placed the Giants to last place in the NFC East.
The former Bills offensive coordinator, Daboll, is considered to be a guru after he led the Bills offense to success as well as an AFC Championship overtime appearance in 2021. Many analysts have credited him for helping enable Josh Allen to become the superstar he is today.
For the Titans, there weren’t many changes in the offseason. Vrabel and Ryan Tannehill remain leading the team. The one transaction that did shake heads was the front office allowing Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown (now with the Eagles) to leave in free agency. Tennessee did have a bitter end to last season after falling to the Bengals in the divisional round despite being favored.
Oddsmakers have the line set at -6 in favor of the Titans.
Players to watch in the Giants vs. Titans matchup
Giants
Daniel Jones: Giants fans were upset when the team passed on big names in the 2019 draft and selected Jones sixth overall. Entering his fourth year as the starter, the former Blue Devil has to perform in order to maintain his job. Jones has a career 12-26 record and it remains to be seen if Daboll can sprinkle his magic touch and improve the QB.
Titans:
Robert Woods: The 30-year-old was acquired in free agency to be the WR1 to replace Brown’s departure. Not all wideouts recover well from ACL injuries. Woods suffered the tear last November. The former Ram has 7,077 yards and 35 touchdowns over his nine-year career. Vrabel will lean on him to perform and mentor the rookie Treylon Burks.

Giants vs Titans Spread: Tennessee -6 @ -107
Tannehill and Vrabel have worked well together over the years. The A&M product is 72-59 as an NFL quarterback and has shone under his coach. Vrabel has led his squad to a 41-24 career record wearing the headset.
The Titans have been to the playoffs the last three years in a row and boast a strong defense. In 2021, they ranked in the top six for both points allowed (20.8) and third down stop percentage (36.7).
Losing Brown will sting as he was a big playmaker, but the team will focus on its ground game led by Derrick Henry. The 28-year-old helps the play action pass develop into large downfield gains.
The Giants have a question mark in Saquon Barkley. The former Nittany Lion use to pose a huge threat to opposing defenses but has suffered multiple injuries throughout his career. Barkley posted a putrid 593 rushing yards in 2021 with 3.7 yards per carry. His poor offensive line didn’t help his case.
A weak offense for the Giants with an also struggling Kenny Golladay (WR) won’t pose a big threat to the Titans at home. New York is 0-5 against the spread in its last five road games. Our pick is Tennessee covering the -5.5 point spread.
Giants vs. Titans odds: Tennessee to win both halves @ +220
This bet is too valuable to pass up at better than 2-1 odds. Tennessee is better on paper than New York on both sides of the ball. Playing at home should also prove to be an advantage. Last year Tennessee had a 12-5 overall record and finished 7-2 at home.
Betting a team to win both halves can be risky but lets remember the Giants will likely be below .500 this season so the team struggling all 60 minutes is a probable outcome.
