Giants vs Packers: Odds, Spread, Preview: NFL Week 5 Predictions

Giants vs Packers matchup preview and current betting lines

The New York Giants and Green Bay Packers will head overseas and take the National Football League action to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London for a matchup that may not be exactly what European fans were looking for when they first bought the tickets.

Brian Daboll’s team makes it to this game with big questions at the QB position, with Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor both nursing injuries. The Packers, on the other hand, have been extremely boring and surprisingly conservative, offensively speaking.

Hopefully, HC Matt LaFleur will realize that he’s got Aaron Rodgers behind center and will give European fans the show they want to see. They sure need to make a statement after narrowly escaping with a win over a decimated New England Patriots team.

Both squads enter the game with identical 3-1 records. However, some believe both records are misleading, and these teams haven’t been as good as you’d think. Both are build through their defense, so this could be an old-school, low-scoring matchup.

Players to watch:

Saquon Barkley: The 3-1 Giants have leaned heavily on the run and they may need to do it even more given their QB situation. Saquon Barkley is coming off posting 146 yards on 31 carries and he could be in for a similar workload in London.

Romeo Doubs: Romeo Doubs didn’t disappoint last week and built on his strong effort with his second touchdown in as many games. He’s become Rodgers’ WR1 and big-play threat and is leading the team in receptions (19), yards (184), and targets (24).

Week 5 Predictions: NFL Bet of the week on Giants vs Packers

Packers -8

The opening Giants vs Packers spread have Matt LaFleur’s team as 8-point favorites, which is kind of surprising considering how poorly they’ve performed as of late. They failed to cover the spread as 10-point chalk last week despite playing a third-string rookie QB.

However, the Packers’ defense is one of the best in the game, and they shouldn’t have all that much trouble containing whoever the Giants have behind center in London. The Giants have little-to-no threats in the passing game, so they won’t look to throw the football all that much.

All things considered, the Giants should have plenty of trouble playing catchup in this game, especially if the Packers go up early in the game. Aaron Rodgers isn’t satisfied with his offense, so we expect them to be more aggressive out of the gate.

The Packers lost two of their top weapons in Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, so some growing pains were expected. But they still have more than enough firepower to take down a Giants team with a misleading record.

Under 41

The opening Giants vs Packers odds have this game total sitting at just 41 points, which isn’t a surprise at all. Even with Daniel Jones or Tyrod Taylor playing, the Giants have had issues in the red zone or putting up big, explosive plays.

Saquon Barkley is the only offensive factor for Brian Daboll’s team. We expect them to feed him 30+ times again regardless of the scoreboard, so this game could feature multiple long series with the clock ticking as they run the football.

The Packers, on the other hand, have been much better defensively than offensively this season. They could easily shut down this mediocre Giants’ offense, especially inside their own 20-yard line. We won’t be shocked if they scored 10 points or less.

So, if Aaron Rodgers and his boy are up early in the game, we can definitely see them taking their feet off the gas in the second half. They could just feed Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon to keep the clock running and make this game fall shy of the total.
