Philadelphia Eagles vs. Arizona Cardinals Week 5 matchup preview and current betting lines
Philadelphia heads to Arizona in hopes of continuing its undefeated season. Arizona is looking to begin a winning streak of its own after it defeated Carolina 26-16.
The Eagles (4-0) are the hottest team in the NFL after starting their first part of the 2022-2023 campaign with wins over the Lions, Vikings, Commanders and Jaguars. Last week, Philly’s defense forced Trevor Lawrence into committing five turnovers (one interception and four fumbles) in its 29-21 win.
Offensively, Jalen Hurts is arguably playing quarterback better than anyone in the league. The Alabama and Oklahoma product has thrown for 1,120 yards (sixth in the NFL) and four touchdowns with two interceptions. Hurts has the seventh-best quarterback rating in the league (70.2). What makes him so dangerous is his dual-threat ability. The 24-year-old has added 204 rushing yards with four touchdowns.
The Cardinals (2-2) have had an up-and-down season so far with wins against Las Vegas and Carolina and losses versus the Chiefs and Rams. Kliff Kingsbury is trying to lead his team to the playoffs for the second year in a row. Last year, the Cardinals started 7-0 and eventually finished 11-6 before falling to the Rams in the wildcard round.
Kyler Murray is a danger through the air and on the ground similar to Hurts. The Heisman Trophy winner has thrown for 991 yards with five touchdowns compared to two interceptions and a QBR of 40.7 (20th in the NFL.) Rushing-wise, Murray has 91 yards and two scores.
The current moneyline odds for this matchup on Points Sportsbook are Philadelphia (-238) vs. Arizona (+190). Oddsmakers set the Eagles as 5-point favorites at -108 odds. Among the public, 84% of the money has been placed on the Eagles to cover.
Players to watch in the Philadelphia vs. Arizona contest
Eagles
Miles Sanders: The 2019 second-round pick has faced criticism the last few years in Philly due to injuries and a lack of production. Sanders exploded for a career day against the Jags, recording 134 yards on 27 carries (five yards per tote) and two touchdowns. The Penn State product has eclipsed 80 yards rushing in three out of four games in 2022.
Cardinals
Marquise Brown: Murray’s college teammate was traded to the Cardinals from the Ravens during the 2022 NFL Draft. Leading Cardinals’ wideout DeAndre Hopkins was suspended for the first six games due to the use of a banned substance. Brown has been expected to replace his production. The 25-year-old speedster has done exactly that. Brown has recorded 30 receptions (fourth in the NFL) for 339 yards and two touchdowns.

Eagles vs Cardinals Spread: Eagles -5 @ -108
The Cardinals are extremely unpredictable and have trouble putting a consistent product on the field week in and week out. Arizona’s two wins this season are against teams with combined 2-6 records. Against quality opponents, they have struggled. Both the Chiefs and Rams dominated Kingsbury’s team.
The defensive unit for Arizona ranks 28th in points per game allowed (25.8) and 17th in total defense (342.8 yards per contest). On the other side of the ball, it sits in the middle of the pack ranking 14th in both total offense (349.5 yards per game) and points per game (22).
Philadelphia is extremely talented on offense and defense. The Eagles rank second in total offense (435.5 yards per contest) and fourth in points scored per game (28.8). Defensively, the unit is third (277.2 yards per game) and ninth in points allowed (17.8).
Aside from their opening 38-35 win against the Lions, the Eagles have shown dominance over its following three opponents, outscoring them 69-36. Against the spread, Philadelphia is 3-1 this season and Arizona is 3-7 ATS in its last 10 games.
The Cardinals will likely have trouble containing an offense that features weapons such as Hurts, Sanders, A.J. Brown, Devonta Smith (2021 Heisman Trophy Winner) and Dallas Goedert. The Eagles traded a first-round pick for Brown during the 2022 NFL Draft. Brown has become the leading receiver with 404 yards (fourth in the NFL) and a touchdown.
Darius Slay has shut down star wide receivers all season, including Pro Bowler Justin Jefferson in week 2. Slay picked off Kirk Cousins twice in the win and should pose problems for Marquise Brown and Murray.
Our prediction at ESTNN is the Eagles will cover the five-point spread. PointsBet is offering -108 odds on its sportsbook.
Eagles vs. Cardinals odds: A.J. Brown over 75 receiving yards @ -115
The Eagles’ newly acquired stud receiver has proved his worth this campaign. The former second-round pick is an all-around player that poses a threat on deep, medium and short routes.
In three-of-four games this season, Brown has recorded at least 85 yards. In the one outing when he didn’t reach at least 85 yards, he had 69. Brown is averaging 16.2 yards per reception and has a good chance to expose the Cardinals’ secondary which is allowing 255.8 passing yards per game (23rd in the NFL).
The Ole Miss product has quickly become Hurts’ favorite weapon. Hurts has targeted Brown 38 times this season. Our pick is to take the over 75 yards receiving prop on bet365’s sportsbook at -115 odds.
