Chiefs vs Broncos matchup preview and current betting lines
The Kansas City Chiefs will continue to be one of the teams to beat out of the AFC until further notice. Nonetheless, another loss to a contender raises some questions about Andy Reid’s team’s ability to go the distance this season.
Then again, we know better than to count Patrick Mahomes out. Even without Tyreek Hill and with a non-impressive WR corps, the Texas Tech product continues to prove that he’s a generational talent week in and week out.
The Denver Broncos, on the other hand, are just on the verge of elimination. They were supposed to be a powerhouse this season and have probably been the biggest disappointment in the National Football League by a big margin.
Russell Wilson looks like a shell of himself, and there are rumors of him losing the locker room already. Nathaniel Hackett’s decision-making has also left a lot to be desired, and the Broncos have been a tough watch all season long.
Players to watch:
Isaiah Pacheco: The rookie has finally established himself as the lead back in Kansas City. Isiah Pacheco has proven capable of being a workhorse, and he’s made a habit out of breaking tackles in the past couple of weeks.
Jerry Jeudy: Jerry Jeudy’s talents continue to go to waste in Denver. The talented playmaker is a big play waiting to happen, yet Russell Wilson seems unable or unwilling to hit him in stride. Hopefully, that’ll change this week.
Week 14 Predictions: NFL Bet of the week on Chiefs vs Broncos
The opening Chiefs vs Broncos spread has the Kansas City Chiefs favored by nine points despite being on the road. That only speaks volumes as to how terrible and disappointing the Denver Broncos have been this season.
Having Patrick Mahomes slinging the ball downfield at Mile-High sure is a scary thought for the Broncos, even with their elite defense. Simply put, they don’t have the offensive expertise to keep up with the Chiefs’ explosiveness.
Of course, the Broncos’ stout defense will put plenty of pressure on Mahomes and maybe even force a couple of turnovers. But that will be meaningless when Russell Wilson goes three and out with a couple of underthrown passes.
The Chiefs don’t even need to be at their best to cover the spread in this game. The Broncos seem unable to score 17 points in a single game, so even a plethora of field goals could help Andy Reid’s side get the cover here.
The opening Chiefs vs Broncos odds have this game total sitting at just 42.5 points. And, all things considered, this seems way too high for such an impressively incompetent offensive team like the 2022 Denver Broncos.
Russell Wilson has been one of the worst quarterbacks in the game this season and by a very long stretch. With him behind center, the Broncos will barely be able to move the chains vs. the Kansas City Chiefs’ underrated defensive front.
But we already know that the Broncos will get some stops and turnovers against anybody, and Patrick Mahomes isn’t the exception to that rule. So, they could keep them from topping the 30+ point plateau like they’re used to.
Even so, there’s just no way the Broncos put up enough points in this game for this to go over the total. This game has the makings of another major snoozefest between the most unwatchable team in the league and the Chiefs.
