Chargers vs. Texans Odds, Spread, Preview: NFL Week 4 Predictions

Chargers vs. Texans NFL week 4 odds, preview and current betting lines

Let’s cut to the chase, shall we? Give how the season has started for these two sides they are desperately in need of a victory here and, of course, only one can take the much needed ‘W’. The Texans had a woeful season last season as they posted a heavy losing record of 4-13 and with the AFC South side currently one of two AFC sides yet to win this campaign a similar fate is staring them in the face already. In reality a lot of their fans have probably given up on a playoff spot already – or at least they have done for a direct qualification to the post season.

As for the Chargers, things are a little different for them. They’ve posted a 1-2 record across their first three games, which is far from a disaster, however, there are two key things to take away from here. Firstly, they have got work to do to keep pace with the Chiefs and Broncos (both 2-1) but, more importantly, it’s crucial they perform better than last week. Trevor Lawrence took them apart in that match up as they lost 38-10 to the Jaguars. Real doubts will creep in should they lose again here.

With both teams having their own troubles, it sets this match up nicely. There will be no fear of what the other side can bring to the table and, as such, we should encounter a decent game of football.

Players to watch in the Chargers vs. Texans game

Los Angeles Chargers

Justin Herbert: Justin Herbert remains the Chargers man to watch. He’s a highly capable quarterback – no doubt – but last week was rather calamitous for him. Brandon Staley has taken the blame for playing him when injured but nonetheless, if he plays here, he needs to be better!

Houston Texans

Jalen Pitre: The Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year showed exactly when the Texans drafted him with their round two pick last week. As his team were slipping to a narrow defeat, Pitre was giving Justin Fields a tough time. Five tackles, a sack and two interceptions is a decent set of stats – especially for a rookie!

Our NFL bet of the week for the Chargers vs. Texans match

Right, with the preview over let’s move on to our predictions, after all, that’s the main reason you’re here.

Chargers vs. Texans Spread betting: Texans +6.5 @ -150

Do we think the Texans win this match? No, we don’t. We also don’t see them getting their backsides handed to them and, as such, our first prediction for this match sees us backing the Texans to come out on top with a +6.5 spread applied. If you apply that +6.5 across the Texans last 10, they’d have won eight of those games meaning that they’ve only lost two of their last 10 matches by more than 6.5 points. As for the Chargers, they’ve only won two of their past 10 games with just one of those being won by over 6/5 points.

Chargers vs. Texans odds: Total points under 47.5 @ -156

Our next prediction for this match sees us backing under 47.5 total points in the game. The Chargers are a tad 50/50 with this bet; they’ve seen three of their last five games go north of the 47.5 point mark but with their game average coming in under the all important cut off at 45.8 points per game. The Texans’ record over recent weeks, however, screams out as an ‘under’ wager being the right thing to do; each of their last five games have come in south of the 47.5 mark whilst their game average across that period is miles under the 47.5 mark at just 33.8. With all things considered, we think going under is the right bet to place.
