We kick off our NFL week 1 predictions with an exciting one.

The Bills were mere seconds away from making Super Bowl LVI in 2022. There they would have met the LA Rams – the current champion and their opponent in this very interesting week 1 of the NFL season. The betting public thinks the Bills are the better team as bookies have them favored by 2 points as an away team.

At first glance, it does seem reasonable to consider that. After all, Josh Allen is in the best form of his life having passed for 4407 yards and 36 touchdowns in 2021/2022. Matthew Stafford of the LA Rams, however, had a better regular season statwise and on top of that led his team to a Lombardi trophy.

The Bills didn’t really make any changes this summer except for the fact that they attracted Von Miller on a not very team-friendly deal and lost offensive coordinator Brian Daboll to a head coaching job with the NY Giants. You know what they say: “If you aren’t getting better then you are getting worse’’.

The Rams had one glaring hole they needed to fill and that was their ”wide receiver two” role. With Odell Beckham Jr out and with Robert Woods traded to the Titans, the Rams’ front office made a pretty decent, according to some, decision. They got Allen Robinson from the Bears and the move may rejuvenate this player’s career.

Devin Singletary: The Bills running back had a pedestrian 2021/2022 but woke up in the last four weeks of the regular season. He rushed for a combined 323 yards in that span, and we would like to see if he can keep it going now that rookie James Cook threatens his spot

Los Angeles Rams

Bills vs Rams Spread betting: LA Rams +2.5 @ -110

This is a pure value pick. We love the Rams at home as an underdog. The public wasn’t convinced that the Rams are this powerhouse after last season’s Super Bowl win against Cincinnati. This explains the line but nothing else. The opening line here was 2.5 and it remains like that to this day. Ever since Sean McVay took the helm at the Rams, he has never lost in week 1. His preparation is that good. He is 4-0 straight up (SU) and also 3-0 against the spread (ATS) when opening at home.

With the Bills, we have a 24-17-2 (58%) ATS record as an away team under McDermott which simply isn’t good enough when facing a team like the Rams.

Bills vs Rams odds: 1^st quarter Under 10 points @ -128

This is our second-best bet on the Buffalo vs Los Angeles match. The reasoning is simple. Sean McVay will come out with a fully scripted first possession. We expect him to score a touchdown or at least a field goal. Since running the ball is what he does best, we expect the Rams to have a long drive.

The Bills on the other hand are unlikely to put the ball in the end zone. They keep repeating that the offense is the same but changing offensive coordinators after a deep playoff run is never insignificant. We see the Bills scoring 0 points in quarter number 1 thus dragging the whole total under 10 points.
